My son's school is planning a school trip to Tanzania next year, the kids will all be about 11 years old. They will be going for about 10 days in February 2008 and will visit an orphanage and go on safari. I'm a little worried about the safety in Tanzania and was wondering if any other forum members can give me some advice. Should I let him go or not. Are there any other things I should worry about such as anti malaria drugs etc? 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Suggest the FCO website VA - biased and over cautious but I use it as a start point for overseas jobs... something obvious, fco.gov.uk or similar then travel advice... |

I've travelled a fair bit in east africa, if it were my son I'd say go for it. Yes they will need a bit of common sense, but the adventure will be awesome for a lad of that age. He'd be more at risk going to London. |

I'm technically a resident of Tanzania, and its probably the safest country in East Africa, so it shouldn't be a problem - within limits of common sense like anywhere else in the world. Its also the friendliest country Ive been to in Africa as far the locals go.
