2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

I broached the matter of prices with Land Rover at a motorshow when a friend of mine bought a Freelander V6 in the USA and paid less for it than somebody buying a 1.8 base model here. Their reply - cars all cost less in the States as there is so much competition so we have to price the cars to be competitve there." It seems we have to make up the difference in what we have to pay here! How come they can sell cars to Neyland Land Rover in Holland who can ship the cars over there and back again and still charge a vast amount less for a UK spec car with a full 3 year warranty................. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Well if it makes you feel any better, the GB pound is worth much more than the US dollar. When I visited the UK this summer everything seemed so expensive to me. $7 US for a bottle of water. When people who live in the UK visit us in the states everything is very cheap. I guess that is why they are buying a lot of houses here in FL.

Yep.. the brits are buying houses everywhere!!
Florida, Spain, Turkey, Bulgaria, Other Eastern European Countries, Dubai etc... U name it, the Brits are speculating in it.. (they already caused a massive price hike in Spain, which has made the locals detest Brits.. as their kids can't afford to move out!) Oh well..
Makes sense when the £ is worth so much to move it offshore quickly..

I went o Pakistan recently, and right now the £ is down against the PK Rupee, but its still 103 per £, which is ridiculous..
Prices and Spending is a joke there also
I.e. 200 cigarrette tub of malboro lights cost me 450 rupees. The equivalent over the counter here would cost in excess of £50, of approx £30 for the same box from the cash and carries or something.

Oh and MDP, i live about 3 minutes from LR, and it still costs me less to personally drive one back from somewhere like Holland, i joked and said to the importer i spoke to, could there be a saving if the car i was speccing to build didn't go on a transporter out and then back in, and i just picked it up direct from down the road? he didn't laugh and just said no.. (wa**er)
Same story with most cars though, Civic Type R, made in Swindon, almost £5k cheaper to bring it in from Holland again..

They like to rape us Brits, our market is so small and in comparison to markets like the UK, they can do what they like to us,
Although at least its not like Pakistan. Toyota and Honda have a complete monopoly there supplying basic tonka toys (which have waiting lists and premiums on them!!) to bring in a Merc, Bmw or anything as exotic as a Range Rover. For example it cost our friend £65k to get in a E320 Merc from the UK.

I enquired at the Land Rover Supplier at Blue Area Islamabad, how much for the Range Rover P38 2.5 DHSE he had in his showroom, approx 1998 model. He quoted price of around £75k!! i laughed, and told him i could buy that for £10k in the Uk and told him i come from where they are built, he didn't believe me, i had to show him my driving license.

Is a crazy world with all these varying markets and demand structures..

yeah i thought about and looked into it soo much last time i went in 2002..
basically you have to have corrupt customs officials to beable to get the cars in and cleared and ready to resell..
high risk of the import taxes going up to 200% at any time, so cars can get caught in transit at any time (have a client who this happened to)...

People who do manage to get the cars through make a killing though, plus they all prefer British Cars, most go over there with british plates still on them, so its easy to spot them.

I.e. Merc C200 Kompressor, 53 plate,
On sale for £48k (sold for that much too!)
Cost the guy £30k to get it into the country, cleared and purchase the car in the first place.
Is ridiculous, but its very hard to get them in, in the first place.

My idea was to debadge the sport RR, and buy a 51 plate from DVLA and stick it on, and import it as a standard 2001 RR, then rebadge it on entry and sell it as first RRS in the country for well in excess of £100k, but that would be physically impossible, as we found out from Customs, as they check vin numbers etc..

Malaysia is also a good place to sell used UK cars, especially Mercs in dull colours and low spec, but any used UK car will sell there for more than you will get for it in the UK. There is even a specialist dealer in Manchester who will pay top UK book on poor spec/ high mileage cars that he then exports out to Thailand and Malaysia. Bobby might be able to tell us why?
By the way, 200 Malboro Red from my Duty Free locker on the ship is $10, 1 ltr of a good brand of Scotch is $17, yes those are DOLLARS not pounds. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
