My RRS is 18 months old today and it has done this frequently since delivery
and it is normal and goes after a few seconds, like you I think it sounds impressive too. Like SuperT I was told it was the diff cooling sensing the temperature, but thanks Cliff I'm happy to accept your version too....... don't mention it too often here otherwise LR might think we want it taken away! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

It's at Hunters in Guildford - when I have the detail on what went wrong, I'll be sure to post it here.

It has behaved oddly since new - frequent fault messages. However a recall TSB was performed on it a month or so ago and it's been very well mannered since then. I'm tempted to diagnose a faulty battery/alternator combination - but time will tell!

My Range Rover is back, I'm told it needed a new alternator.

Whilst I have no doubt the garage was correct, I think it was something to do with the sender on the fans. The fans went into overdrive, the battery couldn't keep up, the alternator failed.

Oh well, at least it works.

That is a different kind of thing then nda, the fan on the TDV6 runs direct from the engine it is not an electric version.

Glad yours is sorted for Christmas though.

I have a FFRR also which does this whenever the car is cold (not upon each startup). If you watch the Tach when starting the engine when it's completely cooled, the revs to to 1, then settle down to an almost stall at 0.3 or so, then rev up to 1.5 (sounds like some sort of auto-choke), and in 10-15 secs, settles down to normal idle at 1.

If you're unlucky to put the car in reverse within that time, it takes off like a shot (the engine stays revved up!). Waiting for it to settle down solves the issue.

In this case it isn't a fan, since it doesn't repeat once the car is warmed, even in restarts w/in 2-3 hrs.

I've noticed a similar effect in my RRS SC, but less evident. I'm going to have to study that more carefully... hmm.

Anyone in a RRS watch their Tach when this revving sound happens?
