Would certainly be easier to look under the bonnet first, rather than the cup holders.

Cheers

England 2013 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Adriatic Blue

Thanks guys this is very helpful. The transport company wasn’t much use, they used a Fast Track to get it on.

Anyway it’s being accessed tomorrow, I’m hoping as it failed on the drive the issues are less than of it where driving. Hopefully have a repair on the way. Sod’s Law is the car just got paid off in full, so I actually own it, what a nightmare 🤦🏻‍♂️ sure LR have a button to press to keep you in their place. I think I’ll be going back to RS6s after this.

Hopefully there’s a reason for a shall and and no engine turn that’s not a rod that’s got mistimed and stuck !

Remove the plastic cover and it’s there, towards the back. Pull the lever up

That's a much neater solution than having the silly loop inside the centre console. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Ok, timing chain on the passenger side has failed, in idol, the engine does turn, 70 degrees to the left then back to the right. Obviously to get to the engine and do the chain is an absolute nightmare and not many people will even touch it.

Seems to be other than LandRover, no one wants to touch. Garages just want to do breaks and tyres these days, I’m thinking I’ve got a workshop. I’ll do this myself, just been looking the strip looks a nightmare, but I’ll take my time and just photo my way in and follow the way out. Stay tuned.

That looks like the same issue they had way back, which L/R reckoned they sorted with modified chain tensioners, but obviously still have the same problem. Not actually the chain that fails but the tensioner which then allows the chain to jump on the sprockets, but I guess the end result is the same a stuffed engine unless very lucky.

Somewhere around 2012/2013 if I remember right, actually have the Vin. No somewhere the modified tensioners were supposedly fitted from.

Looks like Vin. No. CA393639 on for the sport whenever that was produced. I guess it could be a different issue though.

Definitely not fixed

Car was parked though I think the chain tensioner came off after it was started, ran fine then Stalled so I think will be fine. The engine is turning also which is helpful 😍

France

Maybe try a Jag indie as the 5.0 Supercharged XFR's had tensioner problems, it's the same engine.
Good luck. A Cheshire expat in France.

What is the chance the engine is going to have taken damage, on the drive sat in idling?

Timing chain is a lot of work to get to but if it’s sorted properly should be fine

Seen a couple now where the rear left cylinder is damaged beyond repair.

Once you have it timed up again, you need to remove spark plugs on failed side and do a compression test.

I’m thinking as a minimum, the head will have to come off.

You may as well get on with stripping it.
That video seams to give a few pointers.

Or see if JLR will pay half, and is half a similar amount to a replacement engine.

You say it’s just had a service. Maybe worth ringing them up. Don’t tell them what has happened. Ask if a preventative maintenance was done on chain. Possible they caused it?
