England 2013 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Adriatic Blue
Range Rover Sport SVR

Hello guys,

Sorry this is my first post and also an issue.

So I have a 2018 SVR in the Uk, been on actually. I’ve had a ton of ground faults but in my ownership leaned most the glitches. The ground points at the drivers and passengers front wheel arch being many.

Anyway that was sorted last week, and something else happened last night. Car lost power, not restricted 🚫 just 35% down on pulling power no EML any way drove home maybe 2 miles and the EML came on, when I stoped the idol was down and sounded rough as hell around 400rpm. So I turned it off and back on and the idol resolved, I thought has to be a coil going down as had this before with my RS6. Anyway, gets worse.

I turned the car on the next day, started fine went though the cold start up. Sounded ok but defo not running perfect, note was definitely deeper, rpm running 900rpm and all was well. Anyway, left it a hour and turned it over again, the engine started then spluttered and stalled out, since then the crank will not turn. I can’t get ti it manually so I can’t go there, it’s all off the car tried to start the crank but cuts out, then the screens and electronics all turn off, you have to go though the process every-time the same won’t turn the engine.

I tried jump leads, the same .

I tried running an Earth back to the battery incase of another Earth fault which have been issues with this car the last 6 months. Still nothing.

I’ve got the battery charging as it’s low now on the screen, but it’s not that, any ideas lads before in divorced?

The car is 2018 SVR - 55k miles just service and JLR at 47k with supercharger belt replaced and major service. Was hoping it’s going to to turn manually to get that nightmare out my head as it’s out of warranty now.

Thanks in advance!

Bear

I had similar on an XFR, it was the battery on it's last legs, a new one sorted the problem.
As yours is a 2018, if it's the original battery, I would replace it as normally they only last for 5 or 6 years.
Good luck. A Cheshire expat in France.

Hi buddy,

Yea the batty was changed out last service as the car sat too long in the garage as was out the Uk. I’ve also had it charging for 24 hours just incase it’s 100%.

I fear the engine won’t turn over and I can’t get anywhere near to manually turn. I think the chain has gone or something like that what else would stop the engine turning over. I’d guess a starter but the fact the car was running rough as a badgers arse on idol before it did it makes me concerned. It’s going back next month and out of warranty. Brilliant news 🙃🤦🏻‍♂️

I’m hoping maybe it’s got away with some serious damage and it can be fixed without replacing the block obviously or I’m just thinking worse case. But that engine has good voltage to the starter, and it’s not turning over the crank at all. So it os what it is. If anyone knows something else I’d love to know. She has Earth issues coming out the ears the last 12 months. All corroded points. Classic examples wheel arches. Etc but other than that solid really. For a range 😅

Would that stop it cranking over though? Defo an issue at the moment on the driver side arch. I know this as I did the cables my self and used a boil it that was too small so had to run in to a block. It’s definitely not right but sorted all the dash cluster faults immediately. But never seen this one. The day before there was definitely a power loss, as I remember thinking I’m losing a plug. No coincidence.

Engine to body earth poor connection will definitely cause a starter problem. I'm not saying it is that but it's worth checking if you have had work done. A Cheshire expat in France.

Power loss while driving the evening before it died a death though. Started up fine though the starter, then the engine stalled and cut off and didn’t return. That’s my issues the Earth short wouldn’t have caused the stall ..

Have you had the car checked for any fault codes?

Hi Col,

Thanks to the reply buddy, the car is just off in today. It’s not looking good I don’t see what it could be now, the engine isn’t turning. I’ll have the codes later. 40+ k miles SVR has always been ok regards faults the last 3 years. Now this 🤦🏻‍♂️

Another interesting day, no winch points and they can’t get it in neutral. So the RAC has been trying to recover it for 3 days now unsuccessfully. Sending a caterpillar track tomorrow.

Is that because they don't know where the emergency transmission release cable is, or because the release cable is seized?

Unless it's changed it used to be accessed by removing the access panel in the botton of the drinks cup holder and lifting the red lever.

If it’s not there, it would be ontop of the engine.
Remove the plastic cover and it’s there, towards the back. Pull the lever up
