Brake piston flaking??

Hi all - it's been a while since I posted, apologies.

Im changing my discs and pads at the moment - no problem, but upon inspection of both front calipers, the pistons look like this - ie 'flaking'.

Is this normal?!

Im hoping the answer is either:
A) Yes, chill out!
B) No - change the pistons
C) No - change the caliper
D) Something else!

Preferably not C though.....please?! Smile

All comments welcome. Thankyou

E) Normal, but not in a good way. Replace the pistons with some hard anodized Frenkit pistons and seal kits. Not very expensive and they don’t flake.

As above from no expert. If they flake at the seal you’ll lose pressure and probably get brake fluid on the disc.

Easy job to renew seals and pistons.

Thanks NoExpert and JonnyCJ.

I'll reassemble as-is right now as the car is needed as the 'daily driver', and look at the Frenkit replacement pistons and seals asap.

Legends! Bow down Smile

Here’s a thread for the calipers I did on my old V8 Vantage. Full detailed strip down and rebuild.

It’s the same process for most Brembos and especially the LR ones.

The kits I bought were 246914 and had pistons, seals and bleeders for one calipers (you need two kits).
