Suspension Noises - Where to start/What to change..

So I've had an increasing squeak noise come from the front end when going over bumps at low speed, no knocking only like a creak/squeak floorboard type noise.

I originally thought it was the ACE bar bushes but when I had my recent MOT/Service the guys said they looked okay and gave them a dowse of silicone spray.

But with the cold weather the squeaking is getting worse so I'm looking at what parts could be making this noise I've looked at the front suspension bushes on the lower control arm and getting these swapped over, would that be a good place to start and does anyone know if I need the special tool to separate the control arm or is that used on a different part of the suspension.

Evening,
I have had much the same problem as you have.
I got my RRS in January and I love it apart from the noise.
Funnily enough mine is going into a local Indy on Wednesday to let all of the creaks and squeaks out and set them free (I hope…)
I thought it was the Arb bushes but I tried spraying them and pretty much anything that moves with silicone spray with little effect.
I’ll happily share the outcome of the work when I get it home and with luck with no more noise.

Sorry I just haven't got around to replying.

So what happened was... After giving it a once over they concluded that they couldn't put there finger on what exactly was making the noise but the ARB bushes were definitely Censored .

So the plan of action was to replace the bushes and "reset all the other bushes" his words, meaning loosen all of the bolts in all of the bushes then cycle the suspension up & down roll the car at normal ride height then do the bolts up again.

The end result is it's better but there's still some noise coming from the front end when you turn the steering wheel, but it's much better.

I guess the next step is to let him have it back at some point.

Now the starter is playing up... Sometimes it won't start, you just get a click and it'll either shut down or just sit waiting to try again.

Sorry it's not a straight forward win...

It cost £295 all in using Genuin LandRover parts.

Squeaky front end is usually ARB bushes. Very common Thumbs Up

That's what I'd read on here and many other places...

Sadly I seem to have more of a creak coming from the steering. Maybe the next visit will fix it.

Thanks for the replies its much appreciated.

Ive had a closer look this morning and dowse everything in WD40 and the squeaking has subsided so I think its either the suspension bushes in lower arm or the bushes on the suspension control arm.

I don't get any squeaks or creaking from turning so I don't think its the ARB bushes now.

How easy is it to swap the suspension arm bushes as you can buy these as a separate part to the full arm;

Do you need a ball joint splitter or a press to knock the old bushes out of the arm?

Jack the car up place on an axel stand then bash the hell out of the understand of the tyre with a dead blow hammer. It is the most effective way to pin point at noise.

you need the car high enough to try and hit the underside of the tyre and it needs to be a blow / impact like you are trying to bash the hammer through the tyre.

hey guys had my car down at my local garage with my new suspension control arms :

They have replaced these but they found the drivers side upper arm is very squeaky, they showed me a video and the bushing has a lot of movement so were going to swap these out also, Ive found a few different variations and I think its the lower suspension arm that I need ; https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/225591050944?_t...101224.m-1

Can anyone confirm or send a blown suspension parts diagram.

Also are these pretty easy to swap over myself , I don't think I would need a ball joint splitter?

Afternoon all

A bit of an update for those that are interested...

So as I said I've had more than a few noises coming from the front suspension.

After having the ARB bushes replaced which cured the up/down creak/squeak but not the steering creak I decided to take matters into my own hand...
After some head scratching I wondered if I could grease the ball joints on the steering and all the other ones.
As modern ball joint are sadly lacking in the nipple dept. I wondered if I could buy a syringe and inject some grease into them.
Well would you believe it but you can buy an 18 gauge needle with a grease nipple on it (every day is a school day!!!!!)...
So I got some of our super expensive grease from work (It's just good quality Lithium grease but when it's for a million pound printing press they'll charge you a fortune for it) and got to work filling all of the rubber boots up.

Now this has turned up 2 things,

1. A 99% improvement, almost no sound from the front end in fact I thick it's improving with time as I guess the grease works it' s way into the clearly dry joint.

2. After having been to 2 different garages 1 of which was a RR indy specialist didn't either of them think of this or point out that both bottom ball joint rubber boots have split probably causing the joint to dry out and become noisy.

I hope this is of some help to someone.
