L320 Suspension compressor**SOLVED**

Hi All....i know this topic has been talked to death, but my hitachi compressor is dying - turns on when i fire up, runs for 15 seconds and then stops and orange light of doom appears saying standard height only and wont go up or down....mechanic plugged in the reader and it points to compressor....

so they have recommended i swap it out for the AMK one (did not recommend hitachi as they are hard to get hold off and AMK is a better unit). Its a britpart supply unit, so not a copy and around £600, plus the couple of hours labour for fitting and reprogramming ecu....

how many on here have swapped to AMK and was it an improvement and worth doing?

have considered the refurb kit, but dont want to waste time and money....

cheers! Thumbs Up

England 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Santorini Black

I have the same issue on my 2012 model, although luckily ATM it's holding in the normal position.

I don't know what's fitted, but the garage said it's a copy.

I've just checked Ebay and I see they have both Hitachi and AMK for around the £150.00 mark:

This is much better than the telephone numbers the garage were quoting, but I'm completely confused - and fed up with being ripped off.

United Kingdom 2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Bali Blue

The cheap ones on eBay aren't genuine Hitachi, they are lookalikes,, if you read through the description they are branded as susfat or something similar and have a very limited lifespan in most cases I think. 2010 RRS, TDV8

Well think my choices are either:

Buy an eBay pump and fitting kit and spend around £200 and fit myself and keep my fingers crossed

Or

Go for a genuine AMK pump and have it fitted by garage and spend £800 roughly

Looking to swap out the air tank at the same time too which is about £200 for a genuine one...

So do i go cheap and take the risk of buy cheap, buy twice...🤷🤦 Or go for updated compressor and higher cost?

The AMk is not better to the Hitachi - it is an alternative. Rebuild your Hitachi. 07MY RRS TDV6

Thanks for that, I'd better give those a miss then. Whistle

It looks like I'll be stuck in normal height for a while longer then. My PB wouldn't release yesterday, so that's another job lined up too. That's not to mention front lower bushes and ARB bushes that need replacing.

It only just cost me an arm and a kidney for the cam-belt. Big Cry

Why did I buy another bloody Range Rover? I should have listened to myself the last time . . .

i would - but i have the feeling it has completely died and not worth fixing - it doesnt even turn on anymore and before this was rattling, so it maybe past saving....the AMK kit is cheaper from britpart and upon reading reviews runs differently to the hitachi and is supposed to be more reliable and better for the system, but the only pain is i cant fit it since it will require the ecu updating....so will cost me more to have installed....dammit...i usually do all my own jobs (just replaced a whole suspension on a bmw z4 this summer - which is a 2003 and was a nightmare of snapped bolts and rustd parts) so i know there will be rusted bolts and probably snapped bolts to deal with and i dont know if i can be arsed right now!.. Laughing Laughing

..might just bit the bullet and get take her to garage and let them sort it, install the AMK and new air tank too....then its job done!

one quick question - sicne the compressor is not working, do i need to remove the fsue which controls the self levelling just to make sure it doesnt drop the suspension for any reason and then cant go back up?....if so which fuse(s) should i be pulling?

will be taking her to the garage next week hopefully, so wonr be driving until then and usually she self levels at night.....

cheers!
