I chased a similar fault on my v8 d3 same engine and fuel system.ptetty much. It had me going for a while very random it was to like you I was about to suspect the fuel pump.

Thanks for reply, I'll check the cranking voltage tomorrow, Its almost like a lazy start, cranks and cranks ,kinda starts or does'nt if that makes sense. |

Is it normal for engine to stop when the oil cap is removed ?

Well, replaced the pcv valve, but turned out to be fuel contamination.The fuel station admitted liability, was also hundreds of posts on facebook concerning the said garage, regarding broken down cars.
