United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Santorini Black
Alternator & Belt 2008 TDV8

Hi all,
I have recently purchased my first Range Rover. It's a 2008 Range Rover Sport 3.6L TDV8. Really loving the car and the drive. I do have an exhaust manifold leak which sounds like a loose belt but will have to save some pounds for that job.

My current issue is my alternator went on me. Got the panel off and had a look and alternator pulley is stiff to turn and at an angle. I feel pretty confident changing this out however the belt is perplexing me as it's now off and I can't seem to find any information on a belt that doesn't run other components such as power steering and fan. Seems like everything else is still running. Is there a version where a belt only runs the alternator?

Thanks.

I'm not sure I understand?

Why do you want a belt that only runs the alternator? And What about the water pump?

The Alternator drive belt on a TDV8 does not drive the water pump just the Alternator and ARB pump + idler/tensioner if I remember right.

Ahh so this is what I was thinking thank you for confirming this. I've tried to find some belt arrangements to show how it fits and runs around the different pulleys and idlers. The only ones I have come across seems to have the alternator on the main belt and not secondary.

Also would I definitely have an ARB pump?

Might need to double check, but L/R part no. of belt looks to be PQS500460. Pretty sure It was standard fitment on the TDV8 unless someone has bodged it up and removed the system, should be a resevoir for it on the O/S similar to the P/S one.

Ok so further inspection with new knowledge I can see that it's the pump that has gone. You called this the ARB pump but I'm seeing it described as ACE pump. Are both correct? Seems like my repair bill has just gone up.

I haven't yet started taking out the engine fan to gain access to the front yet, but would it be possible it is just the pulley come loose somehow and could just be tightened up? Never seen one out of the vehicle yet.

Thanks.

So I've finally got around to stripping it down and getting to the pulley but it's the pump that's gone. Whole shaft into the pump is wobbling and looks like casing is cracked.

Would anyone know the part number for this pump?

Australia

ARB, ACE and Dynamic Response seem to be used interchangeably for the same bunch of gadgets that control the hydraulic sway bars.

Google RVB500060 £1500.00 for a genuine one from L/R that's 500 for the pump and 1000 for the pretty L/R box it comes in. Rolling with laughter
