Looks to be Vin No. Dependent, is yours within the range?

Yours is part of the TSB VIN range so it’ll all be as it should be.

As your vin. is within the affected chassis range, have you actually checked that the oil drain mod has been done? would like to think it had by now though.

I'm a bit concerned about the oil I've used I used the correct spec 5w30 c1 but have read and seen videos of people using thicker oils as it is too thin.

I’d be doubtful the oil change affected anything. The drain pipes seem to be fickle when they fail. I changed mine before it had an issue just because I could. The annoying part of the job is getting the starter out/out of the way to get to the plug in the block. Be sure to follow the instructions in the TSB and drain the oil out of the intercooler.
