Where should these pipes go?

Hi,

While changing an EGR yesterday I found these two pipes, surely they should be connected to something. Can anyone advise what they are?

Ah, thanks. They don't have any protection on the ends normally?

that's the one right at the front of the car (for front diff)

I guess water can come over the grill and they were worried
