United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Orkney Grey
L320 A-pillar capping

Driving on the motorway for a few days away and there's a slight rattle from the passenger A-pillar. Had a look, couldn't see anything. A few miles later, the A-pillar capping partly detached and started flapping in the breeze.

Had a look and the mouldings that clip on to the clips on the A-pillar itself had snapped. The only thing holding it on was the mushroom rivet fastening at the bottom. The clips in the actual A-pillar are all still there. Annoyingly, I'd elected to leave my duct tape out of the car when packing it. So nearly 9 quid later to buy a small roll of duct tape at a garage and it's taped up and we continued.

Went online to order a new one. Yikes! The prices for a piece of moulded plastic are fierce. Over £100 with some coming in at £180. For one A-pillar capping. Managed to find a genuine item for £120 incl VAT, which seemed cheap at the time.

Wow, pricey plastic!

The screen was replaced during Covid times so it's not been taken apart for c.4 years. No idea why it suddenly decided to fail. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
