Rust…. To fix or not to fix

Evening all…

So I’ve bought this pile of junk but have actually grown to quite like it and was wondering wether this is fixable or wether it will pass an mot like this until I find a decent welder to work their magic

It’s on the near side rear sill

All opinions welcome

Thanks

(For some reason the image is upside down and I can’t figure out how to change it)

fail

If you still have some MOT then you are Ok but once it fails you are off the road except for taking it for repair however you would know if there is anything else to fix. Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.

Why will it fail? It's corrosion in bodywork that isn't in a prescribed area - it's not the chassis rail to which the suspension is attached. That area isn't the attachment point of the body on to the frame either. When the doors closed and the cill panel in place it's not presenting a sharp edge that could injure someone.

Could be down the the MOT tester's interpretation. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

look on the DVLA site for the previous MOT advisories and see if corrosion in that area is noted.

they would say it weakens the vehicle structure Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.

Chassis or not, it looks like it's within 30cm of a seatbelt mounting point, so would be a fail.

Good point, it might be within 300mm of a seat belt mount. If there is a real intention to sort it, I'd be tempted to put the cill cover back on and see whether it gets flagged. And then, either way, get it sorted but at least you'd have time if it doesn't get flagged at the test. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
