L461 D300 to D350 Power upgrade for £495 by LR Retrofits

Thought i’d post this for anyone that would be interested

Also if anyone has used them before or if active on this forum?

I rang a tuning company about the d300 and none of the tuners have been able to crack the ecu, so am bemused at how these guys are doing it.

The link above is a post linked to the defender 2 forum, and I think the software is the same for configurable lighting and to do the engine upgrade. The software they refer to is autosvs.

Hi, I did it 3 months ago, everything is ok, I also activated park assist and many others. I recommend Venture, Ste is a special guy. I forgot, it can be done remotely..https://www.venture-automotive.co.uk/ It is not a remap but a factory upgrade, the engine is identical

The engine is the same but the cooling etc is upgraded by Landrover for the more powerful version. Defiantly taking a chance doing this.

Hello, do you have any additional data? It's a bit hard to believe that LR designed the cooling differently. I haven't encountered any increases in the temperature of the coolant. It's only a 50 hp increase

If it's done remotely, how is it not a remap? Even putting JLR's settings from the D350 in to the D300's ECU is mapping it. If they changed physical components then one could see the argument that it's a "factory upgrade", but they don't, so how is it not a remap?

And an engine giving 50hp more power is also going to be generating about 100hp more heat. The cooling system might be ok with that, especially in less warm climates. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

It’s a common misconception that the D350 is ‘just’ changes to the ECU. As others have alluded to, there are many physical component differences and given historical challenges with Ingenium engines and longevity, this is a massive gamble.

I'm intrigued. Can anyone share the data and evidence of the physical component and adjustments between the D300 and D350 engine and auxiliary components?
It then converts a gamble into a calculated risk.

The same engine has three outputs - 250, 300, 350 - doesn't it? How would a manufacturer have that range of outputs without making changes somewhere? The only way would be to build them all as 350 units and then "de-map" the lower output units. That would be an expensive way of doing things because the lower power outputs sell for quite a bit less.

It could be as simple as different radiators and pipe sizes to ensure adequate cooling, but it could be revised internal components too - the D350 has over 100lbft more torque than the D250, after all. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I have been driving a D300 Defender for the past two and a half years before buying the RRS. All the same things were discussed on their forum. A 300 and a 250 is the same engine, just detuned. Well between cars the dealer loaned me a D250 Defender and the first thing I noticed was that it fewer radiators. My D300 had two more in the corners of the front bumper for a start. When you up the boost to get more power you also get more heat so that needs taken care of. On the other hand as you are unlikely to regularly use the extra power you will probably get away with it, unless you're doing some heavy towing, but then what's the point if your hardly ever going to use the extra horses??

Thanks for the above. Helpful on the D250 and D300. I'm still trying to establish the facts on the D300 to D350.
I have reached out to a the lead engineer for the Ford engine previously supplied to JLR and AM.
He is exploring his engineering network at JLR.
Let's see what I can unearth.
I am no expert.

I would imagine D300 to D350 would be similar. Added cooling for the higher stressed engine and probably the gearbox as well. As I've said, unless youre towing, or a boy racer, you're unlikely to stress the engine any more than the D300 in normal driving.
