STJLR.03.5005 meets/exceeds the old Ford WSS-M2C934-B so it's fine for your RRS. The 5005 bit means it's much lowers SAPS than the previous 5003 and thus is better for your cat and DPF. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Thank you all for the advise. I guess I can go fwd with this then. Thumbs Up

I'm planning to use the vacuum pump method for the intermediate oil changes.
However this got me thinking. When the oil gets sucked out, doesn't all the "dirt" that has been previously blocked by the filter and still sits in/on the engine side of the oil filter, not get sucked back into the engine again?
And so is it a good idea to first change the oil filter before starting to pump?

Always remove the filter first

It holds around 3-400ml of oil that is released into the sump when the filter is undone Thumbs Up

Hi DM,

That’s a very good point.
But if you then leave the filter off, does the vacuum pump still work, as there is on opening now and no pressure can buildup?
Therefore I thought to replace the filter first.
This way the oil drops back to the carter, the circuit is closed again, and there is no risk of sucking the dirt out of the filter into the engine. SW

The suction vacuum is created in the extraction tool you are using, not the engine, so will not make any difference if the filter is refitted first or not.

Thanks for all advice.

So today I planned to do the oil change so I parked the car in a level spot and checked the actual oil level before beginning the service.

Overfilled.

Then I remember the incident I had when picking up the car at the dealers after it had it’s service done last August.
They tried to charge me for 7 liter of oil while an oil change is less than 6 liters. Only after he consulted several mechanics incl the service manager they finally admitted the mistake.

But could they stillhave filled the engine with 7 liters of oil and could this have damaged the engine during the 10.000 km I drove the car?
Should I contact LR about this or just do the oil change? SW

I have had mine overfilled by a dealer before now, did you allow the engine to cool before you checked it? after 10,000Km's I don't think you will get any joy from a Stealer, just change it and fill with the correct quantity and grade, also after 10,000 Km's if you were going to do any damage I would have thought it would show and have been done by now. Just measure the quantity you remove to compare if it was a excessive or minimal amount. Are you also saying that is the first time you have checked your oil in 10,000Km's?

Hi Col,

Yes the engines was cold and I drove it 10 meters to park it level.
Then after half an hour I checked the oil level. And yes it was the first time in 10.000 km.

I red that by pressing Cancel 2 times with the driver side door open you get the actual reading..

Oddly you’re supposed to check the oil level with the engine warmed up. It’s also usually best to change oil on a warm engine so anything in the oil is suspended and gets drained.

It’s hood and driver’s door open, then press cancel twice to bring up the oil sensor live data. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory

I finally did today the oil change with the extractor. Cool

Firstly I drove the car for 10 minutes, parked it level and checked the oil indicator which showed full and OK.
As advised, I then only unscrewed completely the oil filter with a 32 socket but without removing it, so all the oil could drop into the carter pan and the filter could leak out.
The pump took about 7 minutes to take all the oil out.
After that, I changed the filter that now completely was leaked out, so no mess.
To remove the old filter from its plastic housing takes some effort, and the new one has to be pushed in to the same position as to where the old one was sitting.
Then oiled the new o ring on the filter housing before putting it back.
After pouring 5 litre 5W30 C1 Castrol Edge into the engine, I poured 5 litres of used oil into the same 5 litre container. The rest fitted exactly in an 1 litre water bottle.
I guess I must got all the oil out.
Then I poured another 1/2 litre of oil into the engine to avoid overfilling.
Checked the oil level after 20 minutes with the reset knob and it showed 1/2 range and OK.
Drove the car for 10 minutes and after letting it settle for 20 minutes the reading was 2 lines from full so I left it like that.
