Youtuber - Letter to CEO of JLR

This guy has been harassing JLR about what they are doing to improve matters re thefts, insurance, etc.

Might be worth following to see if he gets any answers.

Update here:

A bit long but basically, what he is also working on is trying to persuade insurers to accept Ghost immobilisers as making the car virtually theft proof and set the premiums appropriately. 2020 SVR Santorini Black

Ghost isn't 100% secure. Better than JLR security, but still has its issues

It all depends what circuit they have used .. the usual start inhibit wonā€™t work when the thieves are hitting the stop start circuitryā€¦.

I think that the correct way is to set it up on the gearbox.
On mine, the car starts without the code but will not go into gear. 2020 SVR Santorini Black

Does it stay locked in Park? If not, it's towable and, with the engine running, the brakes work so you can tow it quite briskly if required. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

If they really want the car that much, they could just bring a flat bed truck and crane it away.
The normal car thief is not going to tow a car away - too easy to spot and no chance of getting away if the police do go after them. 2020 SVR Santorini Black

Hi,

Mineā€™s on the gearbox. You can start the car - personally or remotely - but if you donā€™t clear GHOST then trying to select ANY gear kills the engine and makes any attempt to start almost like the engine is seized, it wonā€™t even turn over.

Iā€™m content that GHOST on top of Secure Tracker Pro gives me a fighting chance of keeping hold of my car, and I avoid big cities like the plague too! Very Happy

JLR could quite easily build a ā€˜ghostā€™ style immobiliser into the software requiring a PIN code to start the car or allow gear selection without owners having to spend a small fortune on aftermarket solutions. 2014 RRS AB Santorini Black

From what I understand a Ghost installer can basically virginise a Ghost in the event a customer forgets their pin and has lost their card with the back door code for that unit. So is that is true it wouldnā€™t surprise me if thieves now have access to how to do this.

I still have a Ghost and a disclock on mine. Itā€™s looks like neither are 100% secure but like to think it gives a fighting chance of keeping hold of the car. Since getting GAP never mind return to invoice GAP for a RRS is next to impossible, I guessed itā€™s best to try as much as possible.

The problem is we can try as much as possible to secure our cars but thieves are never far behind the next time evolution of security. If they want it, they will always find a way.

Hi,

For the installer to do anything to the GHOST after installation they need to find the unit, physically access the unit, reinstate the ā€œlearn loopā€ wire (which is physically cut after initial configuration), then re-configure the unit with a laptop with the right software and a Bluetooth connection.

It took two hours to fit my unit, I watched the gentleman do it and afterwards, I couldnā€™t tell where it was.

If someone has the ability to override the UWB technology on my L461 to get in the car then do all of the aboveā€¦..good luck!
