Hi everyone

So had 3-4 weeks of trouble free driving and back to normality my car has thrown another fault.
It’s a rrs 2008 2.7 100k
Orange light with arrows either side and normal hight only every time I drive after a couple of mins this comes up.
Air suspension goes up or down rapid when I try it before driving. Checked for leaks nothing I can see
Scanned with icarsoft and get the following codes

U0416-86 invalid data received from dynamic control module

C1a20-64 pressure increase too slow when filling

Air compressor shows 1650 pressure on live data and like I said raises fast
Suspension never drops even when left for a week

I’ve searched all over for same fault but most say about suspension dropping

Any ideas or help would be very welcomed before I take into garage yet again

I think the problem is more connected with the Ace system as opposed to the air suspension, its been a long time since I has a L320, but seem to recall when I had that warning it was Ace related.

I checked the fluid level all ok and can’t see anything leaking
Scanned the ace module no faults showing on there
Lost what to look for before I remortgage the house and book it in again

I definitely had this once driving back from France, yellow warning, vehicle leans when cornering and normal height only as is yours. Went into the MD as was under warranty at the time, just can't remember what their fix was!!

Out of interest what are the wheel positions showing on the 4x4 display, all normal, no flashing bars?

Yeah all normal on the display no flashing. Heights all within 5-10mm difference when checked with diagnostic tool

Check the air tank at the front they rust out use a spray and soapy water iv had slow to raise on both mine it was the air tank both times gallery pressure was fine as well.

I will check this tomorrow when it’s dry. Strange thing is it raises and drops really fast and doesn’t lower when left unused.
Car drives spot on no leaning into corners.
Really don’t want to take to dealers and no Indy near me who doesn’t want to just throw parts at it
I live the car but can’t keep justifying ££££ to keep it fault free

Exactly same as mine, the air tank is proberly 1 of the easiest repairs iv done on our cars and iv done a fair few

Right so quick update

Got out under the car today with a spray bottle with soapy water before the rain comes back
Sprayed the airbags, junction points, compressor and air tank

This is what I found.




Only bubbles that appeared was around the 2 pipes on the end of the compressor. Bubbled up really well can see much on the pic but I had wiped it before the pic. So I assume the compressor is leaking causing the fault. Correct me if I’m wrong but can you get a replacement part to repair or is it a new compressor?




Also I believe there are 2 types of compressors and not sure which mine is without removing completely

Good progress! they are common for splitting across the top as they are plastic. Pretty sure you can get a billet alloy one, at least certainly for the AMK compressor.

That's a standard hitachi compressor and the normal place where they leak.

Well done on finding that. You can buy a repair kit which will include drying medium if you want the bay is full of repair kits.

You can just replace the end cap in situ saving all the hassle of removing the pump get a billet one and it will never leak from there again about a 20 min job.

Hopefully the piston seal hasn't worn out try the end cap 1st

Excellent thank you I’m ordering one now £40 delivered. From the bay an alloy one with the new filters and medium
Not sure how I would get the medium in tho without removal. Won’t it all just fall out when assembling ?
I will update once it comes see how it goes, fingers crossed it will clear the fault until the next episode

Also noticed a screw in a rear tyre today 😖 the wife has said tho I can get some 22” alloys if I get a full month with no faults on it 😂

Yes you would need to remove the pump to replace the dryer medium and that's a whole lot of extra trouble. Usually the pump mounting bolts are seized and the chassis fixings are rusted out that's another ebay kit.

My pump mounting bracket was cracked as well so the pump and bracket all got replaced. To help refit the mounting bracket you can cut out a bit so you can mount it with the top chassis fixing bolts in place.

Well fingers crossed I will change just the cap and see what happens.
If I have to drop it hopefully won’t all be seized, looks like it’s had a second hand compressor fitted a year ago.

Compressor has 07/2022 written on it in white pen like u sometimes get from used parts
So hopefully shouldn’t be to bad

Update

New part came today quality piece of kit

Got under the car compressor cover removed top and bottom (top piece was awkward to get out but bit of wiggle and come off)

Push fit pipes removed from end of compressor then the 5 bolts pulled cover off you can clearly see the small crack between fittings





Fitted the new part with the spring, bit fiddly, connected push fit pipes



Jumped in car started it up before replacing the cover to check for leaks or anything I missed.
All good raises suspension up and down couple of time all good no error message well happy 😃

Back under the car and re fitted the covers top one is a pain in the ass to get back in but done it

Took car out for a good drive no more fault on the dash happy driving until the next thing
In total about an half hour job and I’m disabled so took my time
