RRS L320 2013 coolant expansion tank replacement

Hi just wanted to confirm if it’s easier to remove passenger side headlight to give better access to hoses that connect to coolant expansion tank. Question Question thanks Thumbs Up

Well, to be honest, it should take no more than 5 mins to remove the headlight so you have nothing to lose either way. 2010 RRS, TDV8

side steps / flappy paddles
black perforated leather
22" overfinch
heated everything, TV,fridge ...... now with gold calipers and mud flaps !( black mud flaps that is) !!

L320 coolant tank replacement by removing passenger headligh

Hi,

Is there a YouTube video for replacing the coolant tank by removing the passenger headlight to get at the difficult bottom hose? I keep getting YouTubes that use a wire extender tool to release the clamp at the bottom from the top of the tank which looks painful! I’d also like to replace the clips with "Jubilee" screw ones so easy access at the bottom is useful.

I can dive in and see what I get but a video beforehand is always helpful and confidence building.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Wokek,

Yes David's one comes up on all "Googles" but he uses a long wire extender clip remover to get at the bottom hose from the top whereas I read that taking the passenger headlight out is the easiest way.

Oh, OK, I see now. Yes, I believe removing the headlight (takes some 30 seconds if some WD40 is necessary) and working from the bottom of the tank would be the best way. Just give it a shot. Regards etc.,

Hi All

I can confirm that the 60 seconds needed to remove the Nearside headlight and grill makes the job a lot easier with the additional space gained.

Total time to replace for me was less that 30 mins, including cup of tea Rolling with laughter

The thought of the job is a lot worse than the doing. As with most tasks. Thumbs Up

The bottom hose was the one I thought was going to be the really difficult part of the job.

First of I clamped of the hose about 15cm from the tank, then released the clamp with a standard set of pliers, from the top.

To remove the pipe it was left Hand from the top and right through the headlight opening and a simple jiggle and it popped off.

then exactly the reverse to install after new tank in place...

Hope that helps

in my view its probably a 3

its more fiddly than difficult, bottom hose being the most.

it really does take longer to think about it than do it..
