Reliability question.

Quick question for all you guru's. Is the L320 3.0l v6 any more reliable than the 2.7l v6. Asking for a friend who is looking at a 2011 facelift 3.0.

Tia

You will not find a face-lift car car with a 2.7L engine anyway, but I imagine the 3.0L is the better one. Both engines were a little suspect, the engine aside I would also be looking at how well it has been maintained, as there are a lot of bad ones out there, as people buy them, can't afford them, do the minimum amount of maintenance possible, buy the cheapest parts available and then whinge and gripe about how unreliable these vehicles are.

Cheers
Col

As Col says, it comes down to how the individual car has been maintained. There are 2.7 with starship mileage, there are 3.0 with similar mileage. There are 2.7 that suffered failures when "young", and there are 3.0 that did likewise.

In general, the engines are similar in terms of reliability, I'd say from reading posts on here over the years. As for the rest of the car - the rest of the running gear is the same on both bar a few details. The 3.0 will likely have the 8-sp gearbox where the 2.7 is 6-sp. 3.0 may have active dampers. Active anti roll bars are available on both but fewer on 2.7. Transfer box and diffs the same.

Buy on condition and history - a booklet of dealer stamps is fine but better is a booklet of LR indie stamps, and if it also has a folder of receipts detailing work done then, YAY! Remember that the service interval is mileage or time, so there should be a stamp in the book for every year. That's often not the case.

Me? If I had a 2.7 and 3.0 in front of me and both were perfect (as perfect as they can be at that age), I'd go 3.0 every day. But I'd rather have a TDV8. Laughing 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

If it doesn't have a V8 its not a proper Range Rover.

Thanks guy's Bow down

As said its a mate of mine who is besotted with it, lovely crimson 2011 97K so called FSH, had Golsh rear light & different wing covers fitted. Looks clean may be slightly over priced.

Arh. Black air vents in wing.
Owner liked to add black bits. (Some could be standard being a black edition I guess)
Nice car under there

Don't think it will be a genuine "Black Edition" although it doesn't appear to be advertised as one, as I believe they were the last of the run out model for the L320's in 2012/13.

Early facelift. Split tailgate (I miss that on mine), 6-sp box, dynamic programme on TR so it's got the active dampers. Appears to have mismatched tyres (or a couple are quite worn) but the ones I can read are Falken so not cheapo Chinese ditch-finders (never a good sign to see cheap tyres on any car but especially these things). Hasn't got over-sized wheels (20s would be right for that RRS) which is also a good sign.

£10k seems a bit steep but I haven't checked prices for a while so what do I know...

One thing, however, is that there is no record of that number plate on the MOT checker. That might be a red flag. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
