RRS suspension

Just had a scan done to see what the issue is with my 2014 RRS.
Suspension keeps saying standard height only, but turn off, then on again and will lower no problem.
Apparantly compressor gets too hot so resets to normal height so I need a new compressor.
Compressor LR108984G £703.98
Labour (1.5 hours) £180.60
Suspension software update £120.00
Not from main dealer, from an independant specialist
Would you say this is expensive or a fair price.

Can this be done myself?
Im not a mechanic but can do basic work on cars

I had a similar problem with a customers RRS,,he took it to a specialist who said it needed a new compressor,customer/friend asked me to look at it,I removed the gauze filter & everything worked fine,so when I ordered a new filter,I noticed it had a hole down the middle & apparently that’s the problem with the old filter. You could always try this first for the sake of about £8,,or you could drill a hole in the original filter.

I looked at the filter and mine already had a hole in it, I ordered a new one anyway which came without a hole, fitted it but made no difference.
RRS still rises and lowers when start the engine, fault can ping up within minutes so can't see as compressor is too hot.
If I turn car off, then back on, fault goes and I can raise and lower as usual, but it pings back after a while, turn off then on again and works fine, and so on

Have you tried it without the filter,,only difference is,,is it is louder & you can hear compressor working more. Andy.

Without the filter there is a risk of crud getting in to the system and causing issues with valve blocks later down the line, I'd have thought. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

RRSTDV8,,I don’t mean for him to run it without the filter, but just to try it & see if that solves the problem. Andy.

Suspension fault update

Car now pings up as driving along "standard suspension height only" Turn engine off then on again and can lower etc until pings again.
Had it diagnosed at an independant (£120!!!).
Comes back with code C1A20 - Pressure increase too low when filling reservoir, so new compressor required.
To supply and fit and software update £1007.58.
Spoke to another independant specialist who was a similar price.
Is this worth buying a compressor myself and fitting it or is it best just to get one of the garages to do it.
Also wonder if Main Dealer would be competitve price too??

I wouldn't let a main dealer anywhere near it. They're incompetent at the best of times, downright liabilities the rest of the time. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Under no circumstances go near a Main Dealer. Put up a post requesting recommendations for an indie around your neck of the woods. Be prepared to travel perhaps as once you've found a good one, stick with it. 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

How will you do the software update, I guess take it to a specialist but at what cost? Will it be driveable without the update in order to get it to a garage? Tim
RRS sold and replaced with a Skoda Kodiaq after appalling RR Dealer experience and LR inability to supply new cars in any sort of reasonable time frame..

UPDATE.

So today I fitted a new compressor, took a couple of hours, including removing trim etc.
Very simple to fit, basic toolkit is all that's needed.
Tested it completely, raising, lowering, then took it for a drive.
No fault codes, no errors and no software update needed.
Total cost was £120 diagnostic, £220 for the compressor, had I gone to independent specialist it was just over £1000
