2nd battery ?

Hi ,
I am new to Range rover sports .
I keep reading people refering to their second battery - what is that all about ? is this an addition people make or is a second battery standard to some models ? I am the darkness before the storm

It's the stop-start battery.

The earliest RRS models did have scope to add a second battery (an auxiliary battery that could be used for camping, winching, powering a caravan/trailer when the engine wasn't running) but that facility got eroded by the adding of hardware in the space. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Something I was going to ask myself - I have a 55plate 2.7 V6 Diesel - will that have somewhere for a second battery & if so where please ?

TIA. 2006 RRS 2.7 HSE.

Yes, the L319 has a spot in front of the brake master cylinder under the big plastic cover that mimics the main battery cover. There is even a set of threaded inserts in the base of the location t allow for the holding down clamp. Also, if you look at the scuttle panel along the rear edge of the engine bay, you'll see it suits the running of a cable from the secondary location to the fusebox - there are even some useful holes for tie-wraps to secure the cable.

On models without the FBH (hot climates or the V8 petrol), the second battery can go where the FBH normally sits.

This one has yellow top batteries added to both locations:

Can't go there on the N/S of a 5.0 V8 petrol Sport if anybody was contemplating fitting one, as because there is a bleeding great air filter there. Thumbs Up

Cheers

The question was about 2.7V6 Disco, Col. So it's ok for that. Thumbs Up

On the 5.0SC, the location by the brake system is still available, isn't it? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Don't think it would be worth the trouble Wayne, would need to move a ecu and some other wiring and electrics to fit anything bigger than a double AA battery in there. Rolling with laughter

Cheers
