Tailgate Close Button Conundrum

Right, so I've got a 2011 (L320) RRS that is causing me a headache (like most RRS owners I have no doubt).

The issue is this. So the tailgate opens fine with the remote and the button on the dash, and closes fine when you pull down manually on the handle on the left in the boot (so it's not a struts issue) but the damn close button doesn't work.

I've replaced it with a tested and working button from ebay, and all to no avail. There's no signs of the loom being damaged, no signs of rust, no signs that the fuse has blown.

I'm at a loss. It just doesn't want to bloody work. Any ideas?

Not sure it helps but just a thought if everything seems to work fine on it's own.
There is a safety feature that stops you auto closing the boot if there is a risk you would lock the keys in the car or an obstruction of some sort.
I'm guessing you have tried whilst standing outside of the car with the key? As, because of the safety feature mentioned above, it won't auto close if you are sat in the car with the key.
Other than that, I can only think it is picking up an "obstruction" of some sort? Or the sensor is faulty/mis-aligned.
Good luck. 2016 RRS SVR Estoril Blue
2005 4.2L Supercharged Java Black - gone but was my first love.

If we all point our RR's in the same direction and accelerate at the same time can we turn back time?

Is it the one piece or the split tailgate? only a suggestion, but if it's the one piece have you tried resetting the height opening setting to see if that does anything.

Hi, it's the one piece tailgate, but nothing happens when I try to reset. No beeps, no noises, nothing. It's as if there is no signal getting to the button. Which is weird because there's obviously a signal getting to the tailgate because the catch releases from the dashboard and the remote.

Have you had the fault codes read? as there are quite a few listed for the tailgate control module.

I didn't get the code, but the mechanic said it was the button. This is why I'm so confused.

There would appear to only be three wires on the close switch, signal, earth and illumination, so if you have changed the switch and no change, then I would initially trace the signal wire to the tailgate control module for a break, unfortunately it's a black wire so there are probably a lot of them in the harness.

Another option would be to put a bridge wire from pin no.1 on the switch to pin no.23 on the tailgate control module to bypass the harness and see if that does anything.

Cheers
