Coolant Leak Location?

I have a coolant leak (not huge, only when driving and not idling) which seems to be coming from the left side (as you look at the engine from a repairing position šŸ˜œ).

I think it's just under the dynamic stability pump/above the transmission cooler & front ARB but can't see for sure.

Is that where the thermostat is located from this diagram? I thought the thermostat and water pump were both right hand side (passenger side)?

Thanks!

if this is aL494 look at the tiny venting pipe goes from the header tank to the radiator, the o ring on it gets damaged and causes leak. I just repaired mine

Thanks RRS4ED!

This is an L320, any chance they're similar?

What is the header tank?

Define ā€œseems to beā€. The skid plate has a weep hole on the left side as you face the engine. So that can be fooling you into looking in the wrong place. Iā€™d look at the water pump and the coolant outlet at the top front thatā€™s between the heads and oil cooler. After that Iā€™d start checking hoses and then the EGR cooler hoses. Last stop would be the oil cooler between the heads. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory

Thanks mate,

It's not the plastic thing near the oil cooler because I replaced that not long ago and checked it first the other day.

You may well be right with the weep holes and other sources so I'll check your suggestions tomorrow when I get my head in there!

the expansion tank i was on about, i am not sure setup of L320 but on my L494 it was the o ring for the pipe came from the expansion tank, which is for the vent.

It was leaking down the radiator all the way to bottom, took me a wile to find.

finally got around to looking more deeply into this and everything coolant system based seems to be dry (all hoses, water pump, radiator etc)

But there is an awful lot of 'wet' which is coolant coloured directly under the crankshaft pulley???

I also found a bolt not fully tightened but that is oil related (extremely minimal oil and far away from the crankshaft pulley). But like I said, other than that all is dry.

When doing other work a while back I refitted the EGR coolant hose that runs across the top of the accessory drive belt area too low. It began rubbing on the viscous fan mount and made a tiny hole in the hose.

I "fixed" it with super glue, silicone and electrical tape and would you believe, it didn't hold out?! Whistle

This time the leak was so small that it looks to have dribbled down the back face of the accessory cover thing and under the crankshaft pulley leaving all other areas bone dry.

Completely new hose now ordered for collection tomorrow and I'll swap it out completely.

I hope that's the end.....
