Any way to improve the HK system in a 2010 ?

Hi folks,

I find the HK system in my 2010 RRS HSE sounds a little flat, even compared to my VW Golf mk7.

Are there any changes or add ons that I could do to improve the sound. I'm running an ipod nano to play music.

Many thanks

On mine I run bass three bars down from max, treble two bars down from max, sub at max and shift the sound to the rear two dots.

I have the HK L7 14 speaker system, but these settings weren’t too bad on a standard HK system either.

Of course depends on the music you listen to as well. I stream music on Spotify through a little Bluetooth receiver plugged into the AUX jack. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory

Talking with some audio guys they told me to set the tone where I was happy with my particular music (I listen to just about anything), move the fade to the rear, then bring it forward to where the sound was just slightly more in front of me. According to them this gives a more surrounded by sound feel rather than just being blasted in the face. Once I did this I completely agree. You get the deeper tones coming from the rear and the higher tones and vocals coming from the front. When I switch off L7 it still sounds good and has the same surrounded by sound feel.

If it’s too much bass/rattle drop the sub down one bar. I have occasional rattle issues and am planning to stuff some sound absorbing polyester mat in the tailgate behind the sub.

The rattle in mine is definitely the door since it’s gone with the sub removed and the sub itself sounds fine. It starts to rattle from the air movement before the sub even contacts the tailgate and just gets worse when it does make contact. A little might be the license plate, but it’s minimum 90% from inside the tailgate which is not really accessible. Will see how it goes when I get it and put it in. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory

If you search sub rattle there's a few posts on it as not a unheard of issue.

Cheers

Yeah, I did my homework which led me to sound deadening material to stuff behind the sub. Definitely not the clips, definitely not the carpet, definitely not the sub mounts. The rattles begin just prior to the sub making contact so it’s definitely from the air movement through the tailgate. Figure the sound deadening material will break up and absorb some of the sound waves and hopefully greatly reduce or eliminate the rattle. I can’t identify what inside the door is causing the rattle, just know it’s very annoying. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory
