Flat Battery

Hi, I have a 2008 RRSv8 HSE with all options. New battery and charges ok. The battery will be flat after a few days if not used. With a basic meter it reads draining 4.5amp when measured in battery circuit. I am having trouble finding a local garage to look at it inclucing local LR specialist. Quick question would software read this drain if it was plugged in to the right equipment, have tried removing fuses and relays under bonnet but quite tricky getting some of them behing glovebox. Any advice welcome. I am in York/North Yorkshire area, Thanks

Have you checked the external switch for the upper tailgate glass hatch? These are known to corrode and cause issues.

Also, I've heard of the alternator causing drains if the diode pack is faulty. Apparently it will be warm if left overnight if it's faulty.

Also, this thread might help: https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic167874.html 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Could be an alternator drain.

Measure the drain in the thick + battery (not the one going to the fuse box, excluded that )

Hi,

can you access/borrow/buy a Clamp type multimeter that reads DC amps ?

Robbie has a write up on Battery Drain over on the D3 side of life,
it is straight forward to work through and saves the potential of high cost for a garage to trace a fault with labour rates you do the initial work even if you then need to take it into a garage to fix.

I borrowed one to check the glow plug current on my D3 Sad
and checked the battery drain while I had it and all within spec Smile
think you should be looking more about 30mA not 4.5A

thought I spotted a good value meter in Lidl but sadly it does everything BUT DC amps Rolling Eyes

First rule is UnPlug ANYTHING that is aftermarket, dashcams ect

you may also to let the car go to sleep before you can test as many systems drawing power if awake and it can be 30 mins to sleep

Thumbs Up Porsche Cayenne 2022
gone Porsche Cayenne 2020
gone Corris Grey HSE Dynamic 2016
gone Ipanema HSE lux 2010
gone Rimini HSE 2005

Or try this.

Replacing alternator fixed it.
