Hi all. I had all good intentions to look at gluing my A & C pillars interior trims today as they're sagging on the edges. We have some aerosol contract adhesive in the garage which my wife has used on house projects successfully. So yesterday I put said can in the airing cupboard to get some heat into it ready for use today. I had a niggling feeling though to check the glue. So I got some old rag and sprayed some on. It sprayed well but the overwhelming observation was that it was not white. Also letting it dry, it dried a brownish colour. So I'm glad it never went near the car.

So my question is, can anyone recommend a adhesive that will not discolour the peeling fabric trim?. 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

It's an age old problem that requires an age old glue, I use copydex with good results. I did recover my A pillars with matching fake leather tho.

I think the nature of the material most adhesives will bleed through, I don't know if it would work or not but if it's only on the edges 3M used to do a very thin double side tape for automotive use no thicker than normal sellotape but is extremely strong bonding, I have used it on rubber and plastic and works well, unfortunately although I have some here there is no product code on it.

The material on the roof of the cabin started to sag on mine. The garage who does all my work and who have got a great reputation for restoring all makes and models said they cannot / would not glue it as there is no adhesive to give it a truly professional finish. He said the only option was to fit new headlining. I guess you could use any glue but the end product might not be as good as we'd like. Barrie.

Gluestick from newsagent in LR we trust

Use a high temperature contact adhesive.

High temperature = over 120C. There are some glues from hardware\autoparts stores saying they do car headlining but only about 70C, these won't last.

Contact adhesive = spray on both sides enough to cover but not soak through, wait until tacky then press together.

For foam backed roof lining, remove loose foam first. I think the pillar trim has no foam. Anyone looking to recover roof lining, there is available non-foam backed roof lining that is easier to use and longer lasting than the foam backed stuff and looks the same. Pete
