Adaptive dynamics and air suspension fault

Hello,

For the past month I’ve been getting an adaptive dynamics fault on the dash and as a result, can’t use any of the terrain controls. This didn’t majorly worry me initially, as I never really used any of these controls. I phoned my indie today to get the car booked in for diagnostics and was informed that this fault is usually linked to the air suspension. I was asked if the car moves up and down ok, if it’s drivable and if there any oil leaks.

I’ve had the air compressor changed not 3 months ago due to it not working correctly, and before then had it changed 6 months prior! Therefore, when I got back into the car after phoning him, I started to test the suspension again, and lo and behold I got an air suspension fault when lowering the vehicle! Sometimes it will go all the way down but bounce back up again because it thinks there’s an obstacle, other times it will go down fine but mostly I get the air suspension fault and the vehicle goes into normal height.

Has anyone had this same issue before?

Who changed the air compressor and did they use a decent new unit? If it's a faulty unit then at least it should be covered by as it's only 3 months old.

The failure to drop is often a symptom of a blocked exhaust valve in the compressor but might be a blockage in the associated tubing to/from the silencer. If it can't exhaust the air then it can't lower the car.

The exhaust pipe goes from the compressor to the silencer (up near the rear strut tower) and back to the compressor acoustic enclosure. Maybe it's damaged or there is a blockage preventing the air from being released.

You can take the bottom cover off the compressor housing (2 or 3 bolts and some clips) and then check the end of the exhaust pipe to see if that is blocked at all.

Otherwise, it needs to have the error codes read to see what is annoying it. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
