2010 RRS 3 litre Timing Belt change

Well it has come time to have the Timing Belt changed... I am not sure it has been done before so it is well overdue (Service records only show the HPFP being changed) and I have been getting some pricing...
Looks to be somewhere around A$2800 and that included a water pump as the LR serivce guide encyclopedia apparently recommends it be changed.. not entirely sure why. Nothing I have found suggests it should be done on YT or on the threads in here I have read.
Just wondering what the general consensus here is on that front?
The good book suggests 12 hours all up and I will probably be up for radiator hoses at the same time as well as replacing the serpentine belt as well...
Interested in thoughs on the pricing (roughly converts to 1500 pounds)

I've got mine booked in for timing belts, but I dont think a water pump replacement at £399+vat.

Sounds expensive to me..

Yes... Oil pump is fine on the 3 litre V6 and I definitely queried the Mechanic when he said it needed to have the Water Pump replaced at the same time..hence WHY I asked about it here.

I had both belts and serpentine belt changed - as well as oil pump on my 2.7 here in Canberra - I supplied parts and labour cost and other consumables was $1200 so I would say your quote is a bit high as parts are not all that expensive.

Where you are I guess you dont have too many options but I would try to get other quotes. 07MY RRS TDV6

The water pump is completely separate from the timing. It’s a feel good change if it’s not leaking, otherwise it can be done on its own pretty easily. It would save a little cash to do it with the timing belt since the serpentine belt, intake and fan will be off and the coolant will be drained, but those take about 30 minutes. After that it’s three bolts, a few love taps and it’s out. Quick clean up, new pump in place, bolts back in, fan and intake back on, coolant filled, party time.

The 3.0 oil pump is still subject to wear and tear. My 2011 with 120,000 miles on it would rattle on start up for a few seconds. Some days it was worse than others. Decided I’d change the oil pump and timing belt and see how it goes. The rattle went from seconds to about one second and only on cold starts. So while the oil pump may be fine as in not subject to failure or breaking, they do still wear. The new pump I got was genuine and was revised from the original 2011 pump.

At the end of the day it’s your car and your money, and I know it’s not a cheap item to replace due to labor. Just relaying my experience with changing it on my 3.0 TDV6. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory

Thanks for that... I am most likely not going to change the water pump unless it is absolutely necessary.. but am leaning towards the oil pump being changed.
Then I get stupid prices like A$1000 for a genuine LR Oil pump... like seriously. Checking the Bay of Thieves they range around the $400 mark for genuine so I will see how I go with that... I dont mind them making a little margin on the parts but stupid prices are not on...

How many km on your vehicle - the argument about not replacing the water pump applies equally for the oil pump. if there is no issue with it now then I would leave it.

Your engine does not have an issue with the oil pump as the 2.7 did. The Lr price of a 2.7 Oil Pump is around $450 and the Ford price is $170 so I would not expect a 3.0 oil pump to be much more - is unfortunate that you cannot get a Ford pump for the 3.0 as Ford Aust did not use the 3.0. Maybe the new Ford Ranger oil pump will be the same as your 3.0 pump.

I would be trying alternative mechanics for this work and supply. 07MY RRS TDV6

As far as I can tell in amongst it all the 2.7 and 3 litre share the same Oil Pump, as does the Jag and the Citroen.
There are really only 2 Mechanics I would trust here and I have the pricing from both.. one in particular is a very well regarded Land Rover Specialist but they are booked solid till May at this stage.
They did say they would only change the oil pump if it needed to be changed... they do an Oil Pressure test befofre they start...apparently.
Hmm I wonder if I can get live values on the from my GAP IID tool?
I am on 150,000 km but I know there is definitely a later version of the upgraded Oil Pump so probably stupid to not change it while it is all pulled down. Oh the joys of LR ownership Smile

You guys have Citroen or Peugeot over there? If so, look for part number 1001G2, it’s a genuine FoMoCo oil pump. I can get them here in Poland for about $240AUD brand new in the box. About $90AUD for a genuine water pump (1201K5).

Yep, oil pump shows up as $220 for the Citroen / Peugot item. The only water pump shoing is a Graf unit that replaces the 1201K5 and is about $80.

That would be much better for me as long as the Oil Pump is a FOMOCO and has at least an AD on the end of the date code.
I might just ask the question of the supplier on that.
I just had a look at your picture and that one is an AE on the date code... even better if I can get one that late.

There are some "after market OEM quality" items out there but I wouldnt trust them on an Oil Pump lol

Well scratch that... the ones on eBay are aftermarket. OEM seem to be all around the $400 plus mark.
I will keep looking I guess.

In that case buy from your local Ford dealer. 07MY RRS TDV6
