Hi guys, brought a new battery charger last month and today had the battery low start engine message come up.

Question, modern batteries ain’t like the old style type and clearly marked with a the positive and negative (well I can see the positive but not the negative)

Anyone got a photo to edit to show me where to connect them to charge the up ?

I'm not familiar with the 2010 battery but if you are going to charge the battery whilst it's still connected, it's advised to connect the battery charger red lead to the positive terminal of the battery. The negative battery charger lead should go to a specific negative post, usually near the battery (might be in a little plastic box that when you open the lid, you will see the post to connect to.) 2016 RRS SVR Estoril Blue

Connect the positive to the positive and find a point on the body to attach the negative. This way the BMS (if fitted) reads the incoming charge and adjusts accordingly. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory

L/R do advise removing the battery if charging to lessen the likelihood of shorting it out and damaging some of the ecu's etc.
However if you remove the neg terminal first and isolate it, then the positive I see no need to remove the battery from the vehicle, it is advisable to switch the ignition etc, off and leave the vehicle for a few mins. before disconnecting the battery though, make sure the key is not in the car or just leave a door open. Reconnect pos. terminal first then neg. You will have to reset the date/time on the dash and one touch window operation as well after re-connecting battery, plus sunroof if you have one fitted.

Just a quick question then. If I remove the battery and trickle charge the battery over night then how does the locking go with the car. I’m guessing when I reconnect the charges battery the remote central locking is activated.

I’m just trying to figure out how it would work when I pull the front bonnet lever and then open up bonnet to remove battery surely the function to lock the doors would not be available.

Ideally I was gonna charge overnight so was wondering what the best way is ?

Update. I’ve got me one of them Noco genius 10 chargers that also repair a battery as well if needed so along with that I’ve ordered some permanent fitted eyelet connector.

If I remember correctly if you disconnect the battery with the doors shut as soon as you disconnect it the doors will all lock, which is why I suggested leaving a door open, if you also fully close the bonnet after disconnection with the door shut you will have to get into the car using the key blade via the passenger door to release it, so at least leave the bonnet on the safety catch not fully closed.

That charger looks like a very similar type item to the ctek charger a lot of members use.

In answer to the OP, the negative terminal is near the windscreen, the positive towards the FBH.

Been that way from the start of the L320. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
