Horn works only sometimes

I am a bit flumoxed by this one... the horn mostly doesnt work.. the intention was to remove the wheel and check every connection etc and then the other day it worked with no drama... but then 10 minutes later it didnt...
It works if you leave a door ajar and try to lock it.. WTF???
I am going to remove the grille on the weekend (I need to measure up for a light bar install) and will check to see if I get power to the horns... could possibly be bad connections or faulty horns I guess.
Any other ideas I can check??
