Sport went bang!

So driving along in my 2015 sport which has just come back from the garage after a oil cooler leak - suddenly blue smoke came pouring out of the exhaust so pulled in, reved the engine a couple of times to see if the smoke dissipated - the engine suddenly red lined even though my foot wasn't on the accelerator, tried turning the engine off with the engine start button - no joy - after about 5 seconds of maximum revs the engine stopped with a bang and clunk - and smoke came pouring from the engine - the first recovery guy though the turbo had blown and the second said the engine had blown - its now outside our house - not knowing what to do next (4.4 autobiography). Any thoughts, am I Censored ?? 2016 Range Rover Sport SDV6 autobiography (MY17)

Sounds like a diesel runaway eating its own oil. Given the recent oil cooler work I’d be going back to the place that did the work. Gone: 10MY L320 RR Sport HSE, Ipanema Sand

You won't know until it has been assessed

However, as it stopped with a clunk and a bang, I fear the worst...

Friend of mine had an Isuzu pick up, it would re gen the DPF a lot which resulted in to much diesel getting in the oil which can cause run away on the engine, Isuzu would put another mark on the dip stick and if your oil level reached that mark you had to change the oil, at the time I had the same vehicle with the same problem, I sold mine after that, one of the reasons I brought a petrol Range Rover.

Let’s hope it’s not runaway, which would be the worst case scenario, my l494 sport is the petrol supercharged, I have had my share of problems with it to be honest , currently got a bumping sound sometimes from the back somewhere . I wish you luck with your diagnosis.
Chris.
