new RRS 2005 hse owner, preventative maintenance.

Good evening everyone, Bought a RRS hse 2005 last week 123,000, I am the 3rd owner of the car, previous owner was a consultant and owned the car from 2007-2023. Has full service history with no expense spared, all receipts of repairs & services to back up. The car had a basic service oil/filter before leaving the car dealer with a full 12 months mot and 3 months warranty. The car is straight and not modified in any way. Me & my wife were looking around for a while before purchasing and we think we have found a good solid car.

Doing lots of reading on the internet prior to buying, and lots of things to read about out there as you all probably know. Ive been reading lots about the oil pumps breaking and causing a lot of damage. The cam belt has been changed twice, first at 68850 miles at Landrover Nottingham, there was a water pump leak so I guess they replaced the belt whilst everything was stripped ? the timing belt tensioner was also replaced. Cam belt was replaced again at 112342 at a Landrover specialist in Nottingham on the 24/04/2020, items listed on the invoice were, cam belt kit, cam belt idler. No new oil pump replaced on both occasions. I have read this should be replaced when doing cam belt is this correct? and also a stronger version of the pump is available?

No sign of transfer box oil or diff oils been changed though. how often should these be done?

Is there any other preventative maintenance that I should look at, weak parts need changing etc.

Any other info id appreciate it

2.7 TDV6?

If so I’d definitely get the oil pump changed, probably on some seriously borrowed time if it’s original having the belt changed twice.

Has the rear timing belt been changed? If no record I’d do that as well.

Do the diffs, transfer case and transmission fluid changes. You have to drain the coolant for the oil pump so if it’s not fairly fresh I’d change that as well. Get the brake fluid changed with DOT 4 LV fluid if it’s not fresh. Have the rear parking brakes cleaned and adjusted. Change the fuel filter unless it’s pretty new, same with air and cabin filters.

Then the usual check the blinker fluid, rotate the air in the tires, grease the muffler bearing and check the headlight oil. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Orkney Grey

The oil pump became a problem around 2007 (IIRC) as the design was changed to a weaker one. It was reverted to a stronger design when the failures started, so your 2005 should be ok on that front. The weak ones usually fail not long after the belts are done.

Transfer box and diff oils should have been changed by now as should the gearbox oil.

Brake fluid and flexible brake lines should have been done too but probably only ever get done "if required". Coolant should be replaced every 10 years too. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

ACE has a reservoir in the engine bay. Lift the bonnet and look for a yellow capped reservoir. If you have only one and it's on the right of the engine as you're looking at it, then you don't have ACE. If you have a second reservoir and it's on the left of the engine (by the air filter box) then you have ACE. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Replace with the original Land Rover item, if not FoMoCo or Citroen. Never with 3rd party or so-called claimed OEM stuff.

Hi and welcome. Good to see another 2005 owner here.

I agree with all of the above. I took mine to a very well recommended LR independent specialist garage to enable him to have a good look at it.

He said it was sound but as I was moving to Portugal and exporting it later that year I spent about 4k on replacing some of the things mentioned in the posts above and have had very few problems since although it gets regular servicing. The only other thing the garage identified was that the power steering pipes were quite rusty so i had those done too before moving out here.

I’d still go for the oil pump, it’s had 18 years of service. I changed mine with only 11 years of service and noticed a difference. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory

At least it's not an engine out, sump off job like it is with the TDV8's oil pump. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
