United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 Autobiography Java Black
RRS rear anti roll bar clonk

Hi, I bought my autobiography 3.0 sdv6 about 5/6 months ago and too date (I shouldn’t say this) has been ok with only a few minor glitches which is to be expected with the green oval.
About a month ago a dull clonk started in the centre rear of the car when the body changed direction so I hoped it was the drop link a nice easy fix, wrong it’s the active anti roll bar. I disconnected one of the drop links and there is about 1-2 cm of movement before the other end takes up tension (slop I would say) and if you pull up and down on the end you can replicate the donk noise you can hear inside the car.
My questions are, has anyone experienced this and what was their cure? Is the hydraulic side of it only for the off road mode to split the bar in the middle? Inside the unit on the bar is it a mechanical link (which could have worn to give the slop)? do the hydraulics force one side up when you corner to keep the car level? Has anyone had one of these stripped to see how they work inside?
Sorry for all the questions but these bars are so expensive I’m trying to cover all bases before parting with cash and trying to fit it.
Thanks for any help or advice Gaz.

Unfortunately according to L/R they are a non-serviceable item, looking at them the end cap would appear to be crimped in and not removable unless machined out, the problem then would be getting replacement parts. Not sure if any aftermarket company is re-conditioning them though.

Also worth remembering that you can get aftermarket bars (OEM might be best) so you don't have to pay LR's insulting prices. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Thanks for the help and the link for exploded diagram of the anti roll bar now I get an idea of what’s physically happening inside (thanks Col). I have a horrible feeling that mine is worn on the splines because the movement I am getting is very free (feels like a loose drive shaft) cheers Garry.

Update
I had some side movement on the rear arb D bushes so I thought I would change them to see if it would cure my clunk……..£18 later and 1hr and half all good, very happy with the result clunk has gone. To be honest I didn’t think the little movement I had would have caused that, better than having to replace the whole bar😃. Thanks for the help and advise.

Nice work Gaz, I think I am starting to see the same issue, I have a set of ARB bushes, was it easy enough to do on the rear?

Wasn’t too bad to do. I removed the wheel and disconnected the drop link and used a 13mm six side socket 3/8 drive and went as far as I could because the rear bolt is quite close to the body, and finished off with ratchet spanner. Cleaned the bar and refitted. I did greese the bolts as they were dry and a bit rusty when I removed them. Good luck nice little cheap fix.
