them clamps will be fine I used the same on mine when I riveting mine back on it a 2006 4.2 so would of thought the side steps the same

Just use Stainless Steel pop rivets won't corrode again, all side steps on the RRS1 are the same although the kit part number changed when they changed the plastic trims included in the kit from pre-cut ones to uncut ones to save a few pence.

Do you HAVE to take off the side step first?
Can the rivets not be gunned in with the side step in place, with clamps holding the trim in place when all lined up?

you can do it underneath with the clamps
and yes that gun will be good enough for the job

I used 4.8mm head stainless steel rivets.
Took me a while, with side-step in-situ.

I drilled the old rivets off the trim first, using 3mm and then 4mm drill bits.

Put some tape on the top of the sidestep so I knew where the holes were but didn't really need to do as I could see the holes when underneath the car anyway.

The front end near drivers side was trickiest due to less space for the rivet gun to get into. I hope the rivets have gone all the way through to trim!
I've left the clamps in place til the morning. As a secondary precaution, I also used some Sikaflex to bond the two surfaces together.

An old trick when using pop rivets is to put a washer on the other side to the rivet head so the expansion of the rivet grips the washer, not the base metal. This enlarges the clamping area, particularly useful if the original hole is in poor condition due to corrosion. Use a washer sized as close to the rivet as possible and of course make sure the rivet is long enough to clamp all 3 parts. RRS HSE Dynamic SDV6 2014

Yeah, it fell off. Didn't go through at all.
I need to use longer rivets so they go all the way through. The ones from the rivet gun didn't have a long head.
Can you get longer ones??

What length are the previous ones linked to?

I need to drill them out and start again.

Extra long length rivet heads, up to 20mm.
Not sure that long a length is needed but better than the standard length that came with the rivet gun, which were clearly too short.

Shall I buy the 20mm head length?
Is that even enough, or should try and get even larger?
The standard rivet size I used before is 8mm which is NOT long enough, at all.
