United Kingdom 2010 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey
Sound system

Hi all

I have found a nice RRS 2016 HSE Dynamic. The only issue issue for me is that it does not have the Meridian sound system fitted.

I currently have BOSE speakers in my car which are great. Am I correct in assuming that there is not a simple and reasonable price way of upgrading the standard RR system. If I am wrong can you please let me know what my options are and a budget if possible.

If I stick to the standard system what would i be losing out on?

I know the car won't be around for long so any reply would be really helpful.

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

Cheers

Alan

I went from an Audi A8 with Bose to my RRS with standard / base audio. It is rubbish at about 400W and no subwoofer. But you can upgrade. I bought 4x DPLA-18808-DB and 2x BJ32-18808-BB. This upgraded the main speaker in all 4 doors and added 2 mid range to the two front doors. Wiring loom is already in place. On my car, the loom on the back doors did not include the wiring or connector for 2 mid-range speakers. I also bought the 1280W amp BJ32-19C164-BG. It needs to say PREM16 or Premium 16 on it. This replaced the standard amp under the passenger seat, a direct fit with all the loom in place. The last thing was the Sub-woofer. I bought CPLA-18808-CA. Fits under the drivers seat and the loom connector was there, just not the securing nuts, but a trip to B&Q sorted that. Now sounds a lot better. Many of the speakers and amps are shared over a number of JLR products so don't be afraid to by one from that auction site that says its for a Jaguar XF.

Someone will now reply saying how this setup is crap and blah, blah, blah and it doesn't work properly because its blah, blah blah. But I can assure you it is miles and miles better than the standard 400w system. Current - 2020 Range Rover Sport P400e
Gone - 2014 Range Rover Sport HSE SDV6
Gone - 2017 Audi A8 Sport

The standard system is really awful. Embarrassing for a car of this price level. I tested both and ended up buying an Autobiography mainly to get the Meridian system which is pretty good. The top end Meridian cost a huge amount more when. new and I’m sure is amazing but the standard Meridian system is good enough in my books.

There are lots of these cars out there - I’d personally wait until one with the right system comes up for sale if sound quality is important to you.

There are some specialist in-car audio guys that can transform the standard RRS sound - they can even enhance the mid meridian to sound even better,

I've had a few custom installs from Audiofile incar (based in Bishops Stortford) - speak to Gary Hallwood and mention my referral.

More on what he can do in the link below:

He offers free courtesy cars too.

I have the 2016 HSE Dynamic with Base audio. I just checked by moving the seat forward and video recording the AMP connectors. I can see only a grey speaker connector connected. There is no blue connector present. Does it mean I can't add more than 8 speakers? Is there a way to check if the blue wiring loom is tucked somewhere?
