Yes it is a exhaust,when adjusting height you can here it in the car without it,,you say if I put a hole in it why have it there at all.Then why does the new one come with a hole in it,when fitted with the hole in it you cannot here the air when adjusting the suspension so hey presto it works. Andy.

What I’m saying is if you purchase a new filter for the exhaust side of the compressor they have a hole down the middle as opposed to the early models not having a hole,,so probably because of the problems with the early ones causing problems with the suspension they fitted ones with holes to eliminate the suspension issues.
If you leave it out altogether you can hear the air inside the car which can be annoying. Andy.

There will still be some kind of silencing effect, think along the lines of a silencer on a gun. The noise will be generated by a narrow port in the valve block so the sound waves caused by the high velocity of the air exhaust will still be baffled by the exhaust but not as effectively as if the exhaust were whole.
A proper solution would be a larger exhaust, but I'm not familiar with the space available so maybe its all that would fit. RRS HSE Dynamic SDV6 2014
