Northern Ireland 2012 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Java Black
Do I really need to get another service before my MOT?

I purchased the car secondhand in November. The dealer I purchased from it from actually owned the car himself for six months and got a full service on it in November.

My MOT is at the end of March and I have booked in at a local indie to get an MOT check done. But im wondering if I need to get another full service? Apprehensive that it’s maybe a bit too soon?

MOT & service are not related. Well they are if you bought it new as the car would be serviced yearly & the Mot would begin on the 3rd anniversary, but there are lots of reasons for them to be out of sync ie car traded in & seller puts a new service or Mot on it. As yours was serviced in November it does not need another until November unless your racking up the miles. From memory (may be wrong, service is every 12 months or 15000 miles, whatever comes first). You get a message on your facia which tells you your service is due in xx miles. Though it counts down rather quickly, so its really done on time basis.
Surprised he did not put an Mot on it when you bought it. Don't suppose you asked?? Range Rover Sport (gone): Mercedes S63 AMG Coupe: 992 Porsche Carrera 4S: Range Rover Fifty P400e

Good to know, thanks! The MOT wasn’t due until March - I got the car November. So I guess he didn’t bother.

Hi,

agree with Lindab its miles or time which ever comes first, although I would question what was done with that "Full service" Question

a lot of time when a used car dealer sells a car and gives it a service all you really get is an oil and oil filter change, so depending what is recorded as done on that service and if it just says full service but does not list what was done
then I would consider doing My Own FULL service and wait to see what the MOT raises first before seeing if anything else needs doing as well.

Thumbs Up

ps. you might even be able to claim under consumer protection 6 months warranty if it fails Shocked

Ask him or/and check with your Vin that the service has been recorded on Land Rover database now that everything is digital or you may find when selling, it has a missing service. If he has not access to the database get the manual service paperwork & keep it safe in order to prove it has been serviced & as riverblanche said, what Full service was done. So I got in contact - turns out it has only had an oil service and the brake pads replaced. What else should I be asking the Indy to do next week? Was originally supposed to get the gearbox serviced but may need to put this on the back burner for a bit.

Josh I’d consider the oil in the diffs and transfer box are replaced. Also the pollen and fuel filter. It may seem a lot but you’ll know where you stand regards the maintenance. Sometimes the cars get a tarnished reputation but these cars are lovely and comfortable, but you must be prepared to invest in maintenance. Good luck. 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

Your Indy should be able to guide you on what needs done depending on mileage. Would not bother getting the oil done again. Ask him to give it a good check over for piece of mind Range Rover Sport (gone): Mercedes S63 AMG Coupe: 992 Porsche Carrera 4S: Range Rover Fifty P400e

If you’re talking about the timing belt - it was done two years ago.
