General Power/Electronics Issue

I've got an issue with interior lights flickering (under door/sill light & speedo/rev counter backlight) along with the trip computer auto resetting after every journey.

I had the same issue a while ago so I decided to get a new battery. This didnt fix the issue at first but then somehow weeks later the trip computer started behaving.

More recently I had an error for something like 'charging circuit' and during a trip the car's electronics slowly died one by one until I had nothing. I got a new alternator fitted which sorted it but brought back the flickering lights and trip computer reset.

Does anyone know what could be causing this with a new battery less than 12 months old and a new alternator less than a month old? Maybe a faulty ground wire? ECU reset of some sort?

Did you fit a genuine denso alternator. ?

If no. That’s probably it

If it was the alternator I would have thought that the problem wouldnt have occured both before and after a new one. With the car having a new battery and alternator then I would hope its neither of these two?

Did you reset the BMS when the battery was replaced?

Sorry to hijack, how do you reset the BMS? I changed my battery and didnt do it. have no issues but dont want to kill it prematurely

No I didn't - I've done some googling and looks like i need a £120+ IID Tool?!

Would an OBDII be able to do it?

I fitted a new battery to mine before shipping car to NZ and never bothered to reset the BMS, have not had any problems and still starts first time, every time and that was 5 years ago, just made sure battery was fully charged before fitting it.

So I have a basic OBD2 tool that reads and clears codes with nothing else. I've done some reading and ended up going for the icarsoft LR V2.0 unit. This has the BMS feature mentioned above and after checking the documentation my model should be fine to work with it. I think this could also be linked to my problems as the new battery I bought last year is a different CCA and capacity than the original

It also has Steering Angle Sensor function which my cars been complaining about since I got it so hopefully I can kill 2 birds with one diagnostic tool!

I'll give more of an update when the tool arrives in case it's worth something to anyone else in this position.

be good to know if the ircarsoft diagnostic works as I'm looking for a diagnostic kit for my RRS sadly my brother in law has hawkey total and it not compatible with mine as can't get the dongles for it anymore
