Hi I have a 2009 facelift tdv8 and it’s throwing crank sensor codes, anyone have a guide on replacing or pictures of the location cheers

I do hope you do not have to remove transmission/flexiplate to access it, which is what the workshop manual appears to imply.

Hi there, just wondering if you managed to find the easier way of replacing your CKS?
I’ve recently done mine, 2008 TDV8 3.6 Lion, took a couple of hours but done it WITHOUT any specialist tools and no need to remove box etc.
In brief,
Front NS (uk) wheel off,
Arch liner out/off
Heat shield out/off
Turbo bracket off
Starter heat shield off
Rubber bung covering access panel to CKS WITH CABLE RUNNING THROUGH, pull out, and now you can see the Allen bolt holding in the CKS, JUST, blindly undo (your head and arm will be in the way now) the bolt is captive so you’ll not loose it, unplug sensor, pull out.
Fit in reverse, obviously

It’s fiddly and it goes without saying, surly, make sure you have the motor on a very very sturdy axel stand and DO NOT rely on any jack no matter what flavour it is, your head ain’t worth it

That’s a very rough rundown of replacement, if you need more help just shout and I’ll do my best.

I have just had the CKP fault on my TDV8, can you please give me a bit more detail when you say remove heat shield as when I have removed the wheel and inner liner there are quite a few small heat shields?

Yes, good fun, if I remember correctly there was about three heat shields, there’s one covering the starter, one on the inside of the inner wing, and another I believe covering the floor-pan.
Just before you go digging right into the guts of it, just what are your symptoms and are you sure its the CKP at fault?
I think I’ve found the ultimate fault with mine, eventually.

Engine turns over but will not start, I have dropped the fuel tank and checked the pump which was OK but as I had the tank out I replaced the pump. I then linked 12v to the new pump which runs, when engine is cranking I have no fuel pressure at the incoming side of the HP fuel pump. I do not have any fault codes but have been advised that the CKP could fail without the code showing?? and that the low pressure fuel pump is supplied its ground through the ECM which needs the correct signal from the CKP to allow this to happen?

sorry forgot but I have also checked that there is 12v leaving the fuel pump relay.

I had this issue, it can be done without taking the bellhousing off the block, but it's not as easy as undoing the torx bolt and taking the sensor out and replacing, I did this and it wouldn't start, instead of taking everything apart for better access I sent a bore scope camera down there.
The sensor needs to be pressed back in, simply tightening the bolt leaves the other end hanging out, you need to make up some sort of sturdy bent wire and slide it in to push the nose end into place.

Also if you have an l320 you can't take the turbo bracket completely off, only the 2 bottom bolts and loosen the top then you can swing it slightly out the way.

I have driven my tdv8 range rover sport for a week and can confirm my problem is gone now, original symptoms were car cranks but won't run, this was usually after a drive and I would stop for fuel or shops and it is very hard to start after that, if I leave the car sitting for over 4-5 hours it starts no issues.

Only thing changed was crank sensor, no codes were showing.
I purchased a bosch unit.
