Dealer saying Front & Rear Discs need replacing at 25k m

Dropped our 2020 SVR (which has done 24,000 miles) in for the front and rear brake pads to be replaced and during the health check they recommended that the front and rear discs also need replacing as well at an extra cost of over £2k.

This would be the first car in history for me where both the front and rear pads AND DISCS would need replacing at 24k miles and we’ve owned at lot of cars including Bentley, BMW, Mercedes as well as a 2017 RR Sport. None of these needed front and rear discs replacing at 24k miles.

He’s saying he won’t change the pads without replacing discs as well even though they did that with our previous RR Sport.

Are they taking the absolute pi** or are the discs really made out of play dough on these SVR’s?

Sounds like the usual LR dealer Censored take to gouge as much money as they can out of mugs customers.

Best bet is to take it to a decent indie. They'll be honest and cheaper. Thumbs Up

If you don't want to use an indie, get the dealership to show you that the discs have worn to their minimum thickness. If they can't, then you can nicely tell them to take a hike. Whistle 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Thank you, yeah I knew I weren’t going crazy. Do you know any good indie’s around London? Preferably North or west London?

They told me during a service the front discs needed replaced at 6000miles. I said change them under warranty as the car was under 3 years old. They are obviously not fit for purpose. My RS6 needed front discs every 10K, but they were only £450.00 from a VW dealer, £600 from Audi...

I used to know a guy who took his Audi S6 on a trackday one Saturday. On the Sunday he replaced all the brake pads.

Within a week his car was in for service and he got a phone call from the dealer telling him he needed new pads. MY17 RRS 4.4d V8 Autobiography - Aintree Green (also referred to on Topix as British Racing Green)

Nope no track days for us. Just been driven on motorway mostly with the rest being driven around town.

This will make you laugh….

They refused to do it in the end so we made a complaint with the service manager. When we got there the manager walked round with the supervisor looking at the discs and the manager just took his side and said they would get done for manslaughter if anything happened. I had a look and there is barely a lip on them.

I then queried the price and said how comes when I booked it in I was quoted £750 for front and rear pads and sensors (including labour and vat) and now you’re saying it’s going to cost an additional £2,043 for front and rear discs. He said it was a typo and that was the price all in for everything which still doesn’t add up because it’s still being quoted as an additional £1,300 for discs. I said them that it feels like they are price gauging and trying to take the pi**.

So I decide to phone their booking call centre in front of him and get a quote for the exact parts and work they were quoting of £2,043, their own booking centre quoted it as £1,444 all in for absolutely everything. The manager was stuttering going “errr… errr.. they must have quoted the wrong parts.” Got them to repeat back the parts and compare it to his and they were the same. He then goes “No they’ve obviously got something wrong somewhere, we are quoting you the correct price”. I just said give me the keys and drove off.

£230k in cars we’ve bought from them over the past year and this is the service we get. Sad thing is they don’t even care. Really puts me off ever buying one of these cars again.

I can recommend Belgravia Garage in (you guessed it) Belgravia.

As the name suggests, they aren't the cheapest but in the 4 years I have used them they are honest and do a good job.

Also being in that area, most of the cars they service/repair are of the LR marque.

Ask them for a free vehicle check and don't mention the discs and see what they say. Nothing to lose.

Keep us posted and good luck. 2016 RRS SVR Estoril Blue
2005 4.2L Supercharged Java Black - gone but was my first love.

If we all point our RR's in the same direction and accelerate at the same time can we turn back time?

Anyone know of a supplier of 17 MY SVR discs and pads?…usual stockists Advanced Factors and Island 4x4 are not listing any…
I was hoping the Euro Car Parts Brembo 50% off sale would be the ideal supplier but again alas not for SVR…

Original number for SVR discs is LR016176, which is the same fitment for 6 pot L320...

Then supercedes a few times, but a 380mm disc is a 380mm disc, surely? Laughing

Later numbers also cross reference to that of Disco 5 and new Defender Thumbs Up

I'd be telling the dealer principal that, for starters, and copying in LR CEO - tbollore@jaguarlandrover.com according to https://www.ceoemail.com/s.php?id=ceo-8968. You ought to be considered to be a valued customer with that sort of spending record.

I doubt it will have any effect, but it might be worth a giggle if nothing else. Whistle 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
