Coolant leak.

Hi, I've got a pretty heavy coolant leak that seems to be coming from the bottom of the silver radiator/intercooler which is situated behind the offside side light.

Can anyone tell me what exactly is that "rad"? It appears to have a water feed since that is where the leak appears to be coming from, but it obviously is not the main coolant rad.

Cheers

Mart

It's got to be the intercooler. But why is there water there? I'm putting a lot of water in the coolant filler each day, and water drips out from the bottom of the plastic cowling attached to the intercooler. There is a metal pipe running towards/under the bottom and is concealed by the plastic attached to the bottom of the intercooler...

you don't mention which engine you have, but the crossover coolant hoses are notorious for cracking, resulting in a slow leak.

best to have it seen to, otherwise at some point the hoses will fail completely, dump all the coolant, and your engine will grenade itself before you even know there's something going wrong. --

Ah, yeah 3.0TD V6 306hp, late 2015.

I had my usual garage have a quick look today, but we didn't get it up on the ramps and remove anything, so could only see what I described above. It's booked in for next Tues, so hopefully, it won't go catastrophic before then! I carry a good few litres of water with me and top up each journey/when the low coolant light comes on.

Had the coolant crossover pipe and water pump replaced (preventative measures) - R12k later. --

I still don't know what the issue is/was since it just stopped leaking all by itself before I had a chance to get the garage to have a proper look at it. I think in my case there is likely a leak in a coolant pipe that goes somewhere down near the bottom of the intercooler on the off side.
