United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Orkney Grey

Quite often the damage is a result of the handbrake parts in the brake disc not being looked after properly at service time. It works so leave it alone seems to be the thing. And then it gets out of adjustment and starts causing expensive issues. I wonder how many EPB systems are actually cleaned and adjusted when the car is serviced. Not many, I bet.

How many of the garages people use are decent indies and how many are just "4x4 specialists"? I'd bet the latter don't touch the handbrake adjustment when they give the rest of the car the annual wipe with an oily rag. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

That's a good point!

The indy I'm using seems to know their stuff and were recommended by Dr. Rob and are LR specialists.

I will definitely ask them later if the handbrake parts are adjusted during a service.

Edit; The indy just called and have managed to salvage the handbrake module (big sigh of relief) and he confirmed that yes "absolutely" should be adjusted every year as part of service. I don't recall seeing it on any of my services before at other garages! 2016 RRS SVR Estoril Blue

If we all point our RR's in the same direction and accelerate at the same time can we turn back time?

In fairness, I do trust these gents.

He was incredibly surprised that the release wouldn't work and said the only way it would was if the "plastic teeth had gone over the worm" hopefully that means more to you guys than me.

I'd be delighted if the repair doesn't include the full works, fingers crossed, we'll see.

So did the park brake release after the original outfit cut the cables?

Cheers

Yes, that does make sense. He's referring to the worm gear within the EPB actuator. It's the bit that drives the cables that the brake shoes connect to. If the gears are stripped within the actuator, you don't need a new actuator (£££). You can buy a rebuild kit - part number DA9223. Kev

If the brake linings are physically jammed inside the brake drum, the actuator could be released and you'd still have no movement. You mention that the cables were cut and it still wouldn't move - that suggests the problem is at the brake end of the system, not the module. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
