I have had my 2010 5.0L Supercharged for 6 years and love everything about the car except the exhaust sound. I want my car to sound like a V8! I previously had a V8 6 series BMW and that sounded superb. So I am trying to look at my options. I'm not looking to deafen everyone and not keen on too much loud popping, but just want more of the V8 rumble on tickover and the V8 roar on acceleration. I have read a number of posts about deleting the centre silencer and wondered if anyone could tell me if this will be enough to give me what I want. If so, where would I go to get this done and any recommendations on what pipes should be used to replace the siencer?

I have seen lots of videos where this has been done, but mainly on the older 4.2L rather than the 5.0L. Would there be much difference?

I had he centre deleted when having a stainless steel exhaust fitted last year as both my rear boxes had holes. It was cheaper to have this done then pay for two rear boxes total cost was £950 & you can ask for the type of sound you want. best of all guaranteed for as long as I keep the car, which wll be till I can no longer drive. I went for mild sport, sounds great. It was done by interpro in Bristol.

This is what I did on my L494, I'm sure you can do the same on the L320: replace the resonator and centre silencer with straight/X/H pipes.

I have a 2005 4.2L Supercharged and wanted more V8 sound but without being antisocial. I think I've just about got away with it! Low growl on tickover and utter madness when giving it some! Cruising at 70 on the motorway is not as bad as I expected, obviously it's louder but not enough to give you a headache.

As said before, recommend removing the resonator box (big box in first picture - leave the smaller box at the front - second picture) and reconnecting the 2 tailpipes with straight stainless tubing. I told my insurance and they said so long as it it was stainless then it's not considered a mod.

If I remember correctly, it cost me about £250 and took about 3 hours to do while I waited. They were based out of a workshop in Hounslow (I think), so not too far from you? If you want I can find the paperwork and give you their details.

Hope that helps, I'm definitely glad I did it. Oh and a bonus, you get a bit of crackle and pop when your floor it and let off the gas!

Scrumpy, sorry for not relying before but just to let you know that I took your advice and had central resonator removed last week. Now sounds perfect….just wish I’d done it when a bought the car 7 years ago!!
