the Android units are your best bet, nothing else on the market (that I know of) that will retain all the OEM functions --

Update - spoke to a local bloke who specialises in aftermarket in-car tech. He reckons all non-branded android units are to be avoided and recommended a “box” to add carplay to the OEM system. I’m going to follow his advice and I’ll let you know how it goes…. |

If you have a moment please take the time to visit the thread of slaine “Android 10.25" Infotainment upgrade “ https://www.evoqueownersclub.co.uk/. A very forthright guy who clearly has a good understanding of the subject far beyond installing a dongle. |

It was pretty good (have since changed cars). Didn’t notice a difference in sound quality but car had the standard system and I had the carplay unit fitted soon after getting the car.

I have never seen car play in a car, so in simple terms, what does it do, in real life what do you actually use that the standard fit doesn’t do, and what are the downsides, there must be some? Joined the X5 45e club

I have car play in my van and the only thing I use it for is Sat Nav. The car play needs the phone to be plugged into the USB port to work so it doesn’t work via Bluetooth so I don’t know if that’s the same for every vehicle fitted with car play. |
