You're wanting to save a few quid on such a thing? Sorry, but you've bought the wrong type of vehicle if you're looking for a cheap car.

To answer the question, you probably can use non-powered ones but if the non-powered one you choose aren't powerful enough, you might find it doesn't lift quickly enough when unlocked. THe result will be the tailgate unlocking, and dropping back in to the catch. Could be annoying. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

That is interesting as L/R do appear to show that gas strut for the one piece tailgate from Vin. CA on as well as the electric strut, to be honest always though all one piece tailgates were electric, possibly for a different market though, or the parts list is wrong.

It turns out the spring/retaining clip on the socket of the strut has broken, can these be replaced?

Yes you can and you need something like those shown in the picture, however as normal L/R do not list them separately.

Wouldn't it be better just to use the correct parts and do the job properly? Rolling Eyes 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Hello All,

Looking at this post. Looks like the answer to my problem.

The Strut on the right looks like the clip that holds it on has either pinged out or the casting on the socket has failed.

Has anyone used with any success one of the sockets from SGS? If so which one?

Or is replacing the whole strut the only solution.

Thanks in advance.

Rob
