Glad this forum warned of the crank problems associated with the V6 before I made my purchase, awful situation for an owner to be in with a relatively low mileage vehicle. |

I’m like yourself PJ old fashioned and check levels each week religiously must admit I miss a good old fashioned dipstick lol.Must admit I have used Zx1 extralube in my fluids and fuel for every vehicle I’ve had over past 15 odd years and swear by it.I remember an old St220 V6 I had and the garage that serviced it couldn’t believe how solid the engine was with ove4 100000 miles on it no tattles knocks .I agree that the regular maintenance is a way to hopefully longevity in most vehicles . |

Yeah it also allows to see if there is any pattern forming such as a recent spout of long drives and oil usage, of uneven tire wear is perhaps a sign of something either tracking or suspension related, all the basics really, For my piece of mind, I then shouldnt get some unexpected bills or something if I can nip it in the bud!

Believe it or not, sometimes the engine still runs and the vehicles are even drivable with a snapped crank!

If it is the crank shaft that’s failed, ( I hope it isn’t) is there an upgraded crank in the new engine that gets fitted so this doesn’t happen again. I would certainly hope so as I imagine the new engine will only come with 1 year warranty and it will always be in back of mind will it happen again. I’m watching this post with lots of interest |

There is no upgraded crank for LR engines - the new US engine as fitted to the Ford F pickups is modified but these cannot be retrofitted to the LR engines as the US engine has a different bottom end and modifications to the block. 07MY RRS TDV6

I will be asking the question on that, so far they have said that the engines fitted are not new they are recon units and I would expext more than 1 year at that type of cost considering all of this is an LR problem! I also wonder if the recon engine will be the unit with increase power so form 292BHP to 306BHP.

The power has got nothing to do with the engine, power comes from the ECU programming. Andy.

Yeah I get that but wondered if the ECU may need to be recoded for this new engine etc. so just wondered if it would get the power output of the slightly newer models or not. If they dont touch the ECU then it would be the same. If a jobs worth doing, get a someone who knows what they are doing to do it!

When my L320 (207DT) went bang I looked at options and eventually decided on a replacement engine from LR. A good friend who works at a LRMD parts dept. told me that if they order a factory service exchange unit and none are available then LR ship a new unit for the same cost (but won't admit to it). After much haggling I ended up paying £4691.74 (plus £2k surcharge, refunded when they receive the old engine back) and I got a full new service exchange engine (LR006701) less ancillaries, so I was more than happy with that. Both new and service exchange engines were at the time warranted for 12 months. He also confirmed that no items from returned engines are re-used but could not explain where the service exchange engines are sourced from. Logically if they don't re-use the old engines then the questions remains where are service exchange engines sourced from? Sold the car to a mate 12 months later and the thing has now done over 450K, (312K on the original engine) and still going strong. I know that the later 306DT is however a dearer lump (£8,128.99 + VAT + £2625 surcharge) but I am sure the above still applies. My Poorly Crank Hope this helps. |

Hmm interesting! I can see how they can nly give 12months on something they are charging so much for that is only being put in the car becuase of poor build or design in the first place, to me seems criminal!
