Service advise

Hi,

New to forum and RRS Owner ship.

I purchased my car a couple of days ago
It has full LR service history and 51k miles apart from the service the dealer I bought the car from had it serviced by an independent, so 48 month Service isn’t LR, with it just being done is it worth me
Getting it re done by LR or just pick up on the next service with them?

Would it effect re sale or desirability for the next owner?

The cars a 66 plate and like I say with 51k miles.

Advise and opinions appreciated

Thanks
Rob

Whether or not it would affect the resale,,, not sure,, the bottom line is it has been serviced. For your own piece of mind if you think you can trust whoever carried out the work,, ok but if you have the slightest doubt as to their ability to service landrover vehicles to a high standard I would look at having it done again. Wouldn't necessarily go to a dealer for the work but find a good indie you can trust,,, or a recommendation at least you will feel safe in the fact that correct grades of oil and filters are used and not some Chinese cardboard copy. 2010 RRS, TDV8

Thanks for the reply, yes I trust it’s been done the dealer is a “reputable” one.

Wasn’t sure if it was to it’s detriment to have a none dealer “stamp”

I may get it done rather then wish I had.

Cheers
Rob

Hi Rob, I get my car serviced by my local garage not LR . I’m thinking of getting a big service done soon by The Green Oval which are in Wetherby and Guildersome and have a very good reputation. My local garage is good for the interim services but want a specialist to do major services I think. My car has done 41k and is 2015 year so I think it’s all fluid changes but will need to verify exactly what needs doing. I’m West Yorkshire too.

Hi John,

I might have a look at green oval guessing they are a specialist, i always have used main dealer in the past I like the service records to be impeccable, and yes they are way over priced…£580 for an oil change and a quick look round ! Thought Audi was expensive enough ha

they probably did oil and filter, air filter and thats it, i put mine in to a good independent for a full service with fuel filter plus front and rear diff oils and transfer box oil, next service is a minor one so i will change the gearbox oil as well

Do people buying cars that have already had 2 or 3 owners bother about full dealer service history? I doubt it. What's important is that it's been serviced on time etc. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I agree with the above. Having a record of the serving carried out on time is the main thing.

Let's face it, basic checks and replacing oils and filters isn't rocket science.

Diagnosing problems or performing complex repairs is where having a good independent is of benefit. Kev

So on to my next question who’s the best in your opinions RRS specialist in my local area West Yorkshire Leeds,Huddersfield,Halifax,Bradford ish I am guessing they will have more knowledge then the actual main dealer or this has been my experience in the past with the performance cars I have had.

More on this

I called green oval and stone lake both look superb but unfortunately the price is less then £100 cheaper then main agent has quoted, so for the extra small amount I may as well use main agent to do it, it’s the B service that I want re - doing.

So you are saying you wouldn't pay £100 less for the same service carried out by somebody with more experience???
Personally unless anything specifically needs to be renewed in this service like belts etc i would wait 6 months or so. Anybody buying the car will appreciate the supplying dealer serviced the vehicle - this is the norm and a service isnt exactly difficult?

Mmm I’d probably do the same if that’s the only saving.

The cars just over 4yrs old and for the extra £100 well £580 in total I think for the peace of mind and to keep the service records impeccable I will use main dealer, I was shocked the saving was so little with specialist and one was a little hard sale mentioning the fuel filter blocks up in these models which I don’t think is the case.

I shopped around to find a main agent I felt happiest with we all know they just want to take as much money off you as possible.

Hey least I have piece of mind and I appreciate the dealer had it serviced he is in my opinion an excellent honest as they come car dealer and would recommend him to anyone.

Exactly John, I like to keep my cars well maintained and with good history because it’s a duplicate service I would have used specialist to do it but the saving being so small I might as well make the history perfect.

I might only keep it 2 years and want to get a newer model and perfect history certainly won’t hurt a Px or sale later down the line.
