HDC Fault/ steering

Hi All
Car's been standing for a month or two, went to drive it the other day,HDC fault came up.Looking on the centre screen it says the front wheels are steering to the right, when i move the steering wheel to the left the image on the screen starts flickering to the left, but jumps back and forth from right to left.
This is pointing me to a steering position sensor.Does anyone know where the said sensor is,or is it an integral part of the steering rack.Oh, its an 06 supercharged.
Cheers all Matt,
If anyone wants turn up and make me a good offer i may take it. Mad

The steering angle sensor is in the steering column and is reached from the driver's footwell. Needs to be calibrated, I believe, when replaced. Might just need to be calibrated anyway.

Alternatively, what's the battery like? Low battery will throw up weird and wonderful combinations of errors. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

update

Ive found the steering sensor(inside by bulkhead).Upon closer inspection, the plastic thingy that slides over/round the steering shaft that guides/fits inside the steering sensor appears to be stripped, the sensor itself looks all good,i centered it and the hdc fault goes away.

The next problem is getting the steering wheel shaft out, looks like a right pig.The sensor was easy to get out.

Was the battery disconnected when everything was plugged back together?
Had something similar happen with a free lander 2. Forgot to disconnect the battery before unplugging and plugging connectors which then through up faults.

thanks for reply flyfisherman.

I just found the problem.
I took the clockspring apart, and the ribbon inside was snapped. It would of been my fault, when i disconnected the uj on the steering shaft ,i must of spun the steering wheel around, which in turn has snapped the ribbon inside the clockspring.(oups)

New one on order

That’s annoying but at least you’ve found the problem. 👍
