Hi Guys, having a few strange issues with the heated screen, when I viewed the vehicle before purchase I pressed the button and it worked straight off, didn't use it again till end of November when I started vehicle and switched it on and nothing till I raised the revs to about 1500 it then kicked in and cleared the screen, last week in the snow and ice I started the vehicle and it automatically switched both screens on itself, the back started to clear but nothing from the front I raised the revs and still nothing, raised them a bit more and still nothing till I switched the rear screen off and the front cleared straight away, onto last night started the vehicle and switched the front screen on nothing again, raised the revs still nothing, switched it on and off several times still no response, so I left it on and set off 20 yards down the road it kicked in and cleared. I originally thought it was due to the battery condition, because with the ignition off and radio on, its always saying "battery low, start engine or the system will shutdown in 3 minutes" even if its just done a 50 mile trip, the IID tool backed this up by giving a voltage of 12.3 volts on ignition turn on and dropping to 11.5 volts pretty quickly after, but the vehicle always starts straight away even when its been stood for a week.

Hi, thanks for the confirmation Andy, was just having a few doubts about it being the battery, I'm I right in thinking because it's a later RR1, it should have a AGM battery, as I read something to do with smart charging, or did that come on L494, it currently has a normal battery.

Don't think you will find the BMS (smart charge) will have a lot to do with battery type, as you say the later RRS1 diesels did have AGM batteries fitted, however the S/C petrol's only ever had smaller capacity Wet batteries fitted for some reason, although I have now fitted a AGM to my s/c.

Sounds like a decent session with a smart charger would pay dividends. Make sure the battery is 100% charged and then see what the various heated items do.

Hi RRSTDV8, the voltages were with the engine off and just the ignition on, it would read 12.3 then drop in 5-10 secs to 11.5 volts, with the engine running it stays around 14.7 volts. As I'm only a few months into ownership and the one that's on is a standard non-descript, I'm going to buy a branded AGM so I know I'm good to go for at least a few years. |

Does sound like the battery might be on its way out. 11.5V is basically flat. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

14.4v common running voltage when battery in new/good condition. |

New Exide EK950 AGM battery fitted and working well, it charges between 14.8 V and 12.4 V so I guess that's the smart charging circuit controlling things, battery sits at between 12.6 and 12.7 volts now with just the ignition switched on.
